Del City is a small city in Oklahoma, located on the east side of the state. The population was 5,486 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Del City was John Wesley Hill in 1885. He purchased 2,000 acres (800 ha) of land along the Arkansas River and built a log cabin called "Hill's Cabin" on it. In 1908, he moved his family to the town and started a grocery store and post office. By 1912, he had erected a two-story frame courthouse with twelve rooms and an attached garage. He died in 1915 and was buried in nearby Jenks Cemetery.. In 1920, John Wesley Hill's son Roy bought 1,500 acres (500 ha) of land west of Del City from David Hockaday for $5 per acre ($100 total). He named it "Roy Hill's Ranch". Roy ran this ranch until his death in 1951. His son Bruce then took over management until his death in 1984. However development did not begin until after World War II when oil began flowing through Oklahomans' local wells; this led to increased demand for housing as well as business space within Del City limits As more people came into town they needed more schools; so construction began on three high school buildings: one on US–441 near Pioneer Boulevard West; one at Third Street South; and one at Fourth Street South which served as both high school and municipal building from 1947 until 1959. In 1956, First Baptist Church Building #4 was added to Listing NOS 57501 through 55705 because its property could no longer be used for parking by First Baptist due to its growth rate. The town was founded in 1907 by a group of settlers who had come to the area looking for land to claim. However, over time, some waves of immigrants arrived from Ireland, Italy, and other parts of Europe. As a result, the population of Del City gradually shifted from Anglo-Saxon to Hispanic and Native American backgrounds. By 1900, there were more than 100 people living in Del City. One group consisted mostly of Englishmen; the other group was made up largelyof Anglo-American men from Texas Arapaho Nation (TAN). Both groups were inspired by reports that land around present day Tulsa was available for purchase at very low prices if they could find someone willing to cross the Canada River into Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). Accordingly, both groups set out for what would become known as "The Great Land Rush." After traveling through much OFindiana &Colorado Territory before arriving in north central Oklahoma late summer 1907., these2 Groupsook up theirstakesonthecountryarounddelcityoffroadsto securepassesagreementtothe newlyestablished territorial government tounonduct surveys inthesouthwestoftoklahomafor acertain amountoftlandLocatedacrossfrommodernday Tulsa,. After conferring with then US Senator Charles Evans Hughes , both groups agreed on $5 per acre for any new territory acquired west of the Arkansas River . This agreement allowed TAN members residing east or northeast of current day Tulsa to sell their holdings back ta those within easy driving distance without having their land taken away during later homesteading efforts following World War I . This initial purchase gave rise to what is now known as "The Old Empire," which ran along Hwy 169 between Delaware Avenue and Interstate 40 across frompresent day Oklahoma State Fairgrounds/ Convention Center/Parks& Recreation Complex ..ItwashereTHATsecondGreatLandRUSHbegan –Homes being built rapidlyalong dirt Roads… plows not being able to keep up with demand…. settlers taking risks with little return….. within months most all locations surveyed had been purchased & Preliminary drawings prepared…….. this led directly tounatural resources underlying much today’s eastern half Of OKLAHOMA

However, soon after, the town began to decline as economic opportunities diminished and social unrest increased.
