Claremore, Oklahoma was the first city in the United States to offer a municipal Optical Service. Claremore City Council passed an ordinance on December 6, 1909, authorizing the city's first Municipal optical store. The store was located on Main Street and operated by Mr. John W. Smith from 1911-1915. In 1915, Claremore became one of sixteen cities in Oklahoma that were granted a Municipal Optical Service by state statute No. 24. On December 6, 1915, Mayor Burt Hargrave of Claremorhea appointed GEOFFREY JONES as the first Municipal Optical Examiner for Claremore City limits and authorized him to sell optical products within the boundaries of the City limits. In 1916-1920, THEODORE SANDERS conducted various studies for Claremorhea in connection with providing Municipal Optical service and submitted his report to Mayor Hargrave on January 21st 1920 which recommended that all eighteen (18) Municipalities in Oklahoma be granted a Municipal Optical Service by state statute No. 24 & Ordinance No. 2145; this recommendation was accepted by Mayor Hargrave and incorporated into State Statute No: 25 & Ordinance No: 2642 on February 11th 1920 which provided for a Public Commission to provide supervision of Municipal optical stores throughout the State of Oklahoma; this commission was made up of Messrs James Aiken (Chairman), Ira Cook (Vice Chairman), Wm Murchison ( Secretary) & Geo Prentice ( Treasurer). On May 1st 1922 Mrs Clara Kapp purchased control of Yesteryear's Store #1 fromMr Eben Salisbury who had been operating it since 1919 when Yesteryear's store moved from its original site at 3900 N Broadway across from Mercy Hospital to become Yesteryear's Store #2 adjacent to then newly built First National Bank Building at 4500 N Broadway acrossfrom US Post Office; Mrs Kapp later changed her name to Evelyn Beavers which is still used today as their Corporate Name
Claremore is a small town located in the Ozark Mountains of western Oklahoma. The population was 5,521 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Claremore was founded in 1881 by settlers from Vermont. The first post office in Claremore was established on April 15, 1881, and it served the community until 1907. The first store opened in Claremore on October 6, 1894. The first physician to serve Claremore was Dr. George Fenton Jr.. In 1902, Claremorle had a school and dairy which closed in 1945. In 1918, oil was discovered at Anadarko Field and production began at Claremorle soon after. By 1923, over 25 wells were drilled in the community with production reaching 1 million barrels per day by 1928! In 1935, oil production increased again when an additional well were drilled at Anadarko Field making it one of the largest oil fields ever found in Oklahoma! However due to World War II shortages of key supplies such as oilfield equipment), this increase did not continue and total production decreased back to 500 thousand barrels per day by 1949! However despite these low levels of production during much of this time period; Claremorle continued to be a vibrant community with many businesses including several churches (First Baptist Church being founded in 1916), two schools (Claremore High School & Osage Hills School District No 9), two stores (Granite Coal Store & Ohio Valley Woolen Mills) and three residences (Mount Pleasant Estate #1-4). These businesses thrived even though there wasn't always enough money for new construction or repairs!

The community rapidly grew with many businesses opening up including a bank (1910), grocery store (1912), post office (1913), school (1914-18) and two churches—one Methodist and one Baptist—both built within a year or so of each other. In 1925, Claremore became an incorporated municipality with its own government thanks to passage by local voters of an amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution granting voting rights to municipalities with more than 1,000 residents
