Claremore became an important railroad junction in the area and several businesses flourished due to its location. In 1926, the city council established a police department and began policing itself. From then on, Claremore grew rapidly and developed into an attractive community with many commercial enterprises. By the 1940s, the population of Claremore had grown to over 10,000 people. The city government began investing in public transportation which made it easier for residents to get around town. In 1948, Claremore experienced its first mass shooting when three men were killed by two gunmen at a local barbershop. This event helped spur development within the city limits and led to more robust security measures being put in place.
Claremore, Oklahoma is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 7,645 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1885 by Andrew J. Jackson and named for him. Claremore became an incorporated village in 1907. The first post office opened in 1911 and the name was changed to Claremore in 1923 after the death of its original postmaster, General Wm. Hodge Claremore Sr.. In 1951, Claremorle annexed part of Muskogee County and changed its name back to Claremore as a result. In 1957, it passed an ordinance outlawing smoking cigarettes on public property and repealed its smoking ban two years later. Most of the early development took place around the east side of town where there were few if any trees or other coverings for smoke from fires that burned during summer months while most people were outside working or living close to their homes on small plots of land granted by state officials who also happened to be farmers at that time. Over time some more established business locations have been developed including: a grocery store built in 1963 which still stands today as one of Tulsa's oldest businesses; Barnes & Noble (now Barnes & Noble-India); Tyson's chicken restaurant (now Tyson's Corner Store); Andrae jewelers; KFC restaurant; Mohawk casino; First National Bank; Roy Rogers store - now Steak 'n Shake - ; hardware store - now Home Depot - ; and finally a hospital which opened thanks to a donation from Mayor Bradley Chapman in 2006 which replaced an old brick structure located across from McLennan High School that had been used as a school gym until it closed due to failure several years earlier In recent times much progress has been made with regards to infrastructure such as new roads being constructed especially around downtown where many new businesses have relocated along with increased access to education through both private and public schools as well as general health care services becoming available through various clinics located within walking distance either directly or via short car trips away from central business district areas making life much easier for residents who are busy working day jobs or doing things they enjoy outside their homes all while keeping taxes low thereby aiding economic growthphony giving Residents something good out of every bad situation
