The history of gun lights in Claremore, Oklahoma begins with the first lighted pistol in the town on October 3, 1907. The pistols were made by J.C. Hennessey and Company and were used by sheriff's deputies to warn residents of law enforcement activity. The company also produced the first self-loading rifle in the United States. In 1912, a bill was introduced in Congress to make it a felony for anyone to possess a firearm without a license from the government. The measure failed to pass however, due to public opposition. In 1934, Claremore became one of the few cities in Oklahoma City that allowed night parking for cars and trucks within city limits. This change led to an increase in traffic as people preferred not to have their vehicles stopped at registration or tax crossings during nighttime hours. As gun ownership increased throughout Oklahoma City and other cities, so too did problems with handguns being stolen from individuals or businesses alike. A law was passed requiring handgun owners to keep their firearms locked up at all times while they are away from their homes. This measure was designed to prevent robberies and other crimes committed with handguns that could be committed with regular rifles or shotguns. Gun lights began appearing on automobiles around 1940 when oil companies began installing them as warning signals inside highway rest areas across the state ofOklahoma. By 1949, nearly every incorporated community had at least one lighted intersection within its limits; this included Claremore where numerous intersections now feature gun lights as part of their design features

However, after the end of the war, Claremore began to grow again as a result of increased industry and population growth. In 1977, Claremore became an independent city.
