In 1907, industrialist and entrepreneur, W.C. Fields, founded the Claremore Gun Company in Claremore, Oklahoma. The company manufactured high-powered airguns for use by law enforcement and target shooters. By 1912, the company had developed a modular design for airguns that allowed them to be customized to meet the needs of individual shooters. In 1916, the company became an affiliate of King's Arms Ammunition Company and commenced manufacturing rounds for that company's firearms. In 1934, the Claremore Gun Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Ltd., becoming one of the largest American firearms manufacturers. The company continued to produce airguns until 1990 when it was purchased by Black Hills Ammunition Incorporated. Today, Black Hills Ammunition produces hunting shotguns and sporting rifles under its own name as well as selling reloads and other related products through its original store location in Claremore City
