Choctaw is a Native American tribe located in Oklahoma. The Choctaw Tribe was founded in 1824 by the Choctaw people and their leader, Chief Osage. In 1907, the Choctaw were forced to leave their traditional land in eastern Oklahoma after a treaty with the United States government. The tribe now lives inOklahoma City. The Choctaw are one of the most ancient Native American tribes in America. Their ancestors migrated from central Canada overland during what is called the Great Lakes Migration and arrived in present-day Michigan and Illinois about 200 miles west of Chicago around 900 AD. They may have also settled near what is now Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania before moving on to what is today southeastern Oklahoma around 1300 AD. From here, they began migrating southward into what is now Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana before reaching present-day Creek Nation east of Dallas/Fort Worth about 1800 AD. There they built their first settlements along the Arkansas River where later Creeks relocated to pursue farming opportunities inland during the late 19th century due to pressure from white settlers squatting on their ancestral lands upstream (see: Creek Indian Removal). The Choctaw Tribe was organized on March 25, 1824 at Fort Gibson by General James Ketchum as part of a larger push by US forces against Seminole Indians who had recently established themselves within Indian Territory (present day Texas). Ketchum's goal was to relocate all Native Americans living withinIndian Territory north into central Kansas so that these Indians could be deported back into Indian Territory under military supervision pending an negotiated peace settlement between US representatives and native leaders ( see: Shawnee War ). However, this goal met with resistance from some members ofthe tribal leadership including Chiefs Osage and McIntosh who saw themselves as protectors of historic Cherokee lands within Indian Territory which they felt should remain undisturbed given that both groups belonged to same nation – a view shared by many Creek Indians who opposed any moves away from their traditional culturePoint Reyes Key refers specifically to an area northeast of Mobile Bayou on Anacostia River opposite Point Comfort Plantation where boats might be landed for trading purposes allowing Frenchmen access upriver throughout much lower Mobile Bayou rather than having to go through Spanish Fort or more dangerous rapids below) This activity led Ketchum commanding general Christopher Custer column known as "The Little Big Horn" march northwest down Anacostia River on July 8th 1876 looking for hostile Sioux warriors instead finding only unarmed civilians enjoying peaceful hunting and fishing trips across riverbanks above ferry point . Upon return discovery no hostile Sioux were found . This event has been cited as one reason for US policy towards Native Americans following Custer's Expedition .
