Choctaw has always been an agricultural center with crops such as cotton (the most important crop), cornmeal/milk mix, potatoes (a mainstay during times of drought), fruits (raspberries are especially popular), honeydews (a type of syrup made from huckleberries), cattle(chiefly used for rodeo events), soybeans (now an export commodity) and other products being grown hereabouts today. There have been three downtowns throughout its history- one in 1907 when the two cities merged; another in 1965 when Choictaw Consolidated City was formed; and another currently located on US Highway 36 just east of downtown which began operations in 1984 as the new Sheriff's Department Headquarters Complex/ choictawa Civic Center
