Choctaw, Oklahoma is a city of over 100,000 people located in westernOklahoma. The Choctaw Nation was established in 1836 and the city was founded in 1907 as the seat of the tribe. The first guns used by the Choctaw were bows and arrows. A cannon was erected on an island in what is now downtown Choctaw in 1907. It became known as the “Guns Hill” and firing occurred from there until 1927 when a new tower was built to fire artillery projectiles out of town. In 1934, both the Indian Territory Bureau of Firearms (now OU Firearms) and the Oklahoma State Police were merged into one organization called Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation (OBI). The bureau continued to use Guns Hill for its target shooting events until it moved to its current location at 7th and Vine Streets in 1951. In 1955, Oklahoma Statutes 9-304 authorized purchase of handguns by law enforcement agencies within the state government without obtaining a license from THE OKLAHOMA STATE POLICE COMMISSIONING OFFICER. In 1960, handguns became available to citizens with a special permit which had been issued by then-Governor Don Boren. From that time through 1992, handgun permits could only be obtained through BATFE licensing process rather than through purchasing directly from police agencies like before which required registration with THE OKLAHOMA STATE POLICE COMMISSIONING OFFICER

Choctaw is a small town in Osage County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,524 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa-Arlington-Mulberry, OK Micropolitan Statistical Area. Choctaw was founded in 1881 by Choctaws who had come from Creek Nation and were looking for a new home. The first post office was established in 1886. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Choctaw Heights after an act by Representative Harry Houdini which granted Cherokee land east of the Arkansas River to white people as a reward for their fight against speculators trying to purchase that land from the tribe. In 1928, Choctaw Heights became a city andChoctaw remained an unincorporated community until it became a part of Tulsa on January 1, 2002 when it merged with Tulsa's other two cities - Arlingua and Midtown - creating what is now one of Tulsa's most tightly knit communities. The Choctaws have been here since before there were any Choctaws living in this area; they may have even been among those who arrived during Indian Removal in 1838. They are descendants of Chief Cochin’s band who traveled through what is now Osage County in search of new land to settle after losing their traditional hunting and fishing grounds to white settlers on the Wichita River valley west of present day Wichita Falls, Texas. By all accounts these early permanent residents were hardy people with strong traditions and values who left behind distinctive culture both physically and symbolically: chiefally carved teepees still stand today along with tombs honoring important chiefs dating back more than 300 years old."

In 1821-22, European Americans began settling in present-day Oklahoma Territory as part of the Santa Fe Trail project. Many settlers came to this area because it was rich in coal and silver resources. By 1830, most Native Americans had moved away from areas where these metals were found. The first white person to live in present-day Choctaw County was James Ketchum who claimed land near Tahlequah in 1836 according to county records. In 1840, John Dickson built his house on current day Northwest corner lot number fourteenth street east when he purchased 640 acres for $5 per acre from George Ruhlman (a German immigrant). This spot would later become known as Dicksonville after Dickson himself and his family resided there for many years prior to their removal to Indian Territory during the territorial period known as Indian Removal (1862 – 1907).
