Choctaw is a small town in Choctaw County, Oklahoma. The population was 6,593 at the 2010 census. The Choctaw Nation of Indians live on the town's eastern edge and its two schools are among the most ethnically diverse in Oklahoma. The Choctaw people were first known to live in this area around 1814. They had been living here for some time before that when they began trading with the Osage Indian nation. In 1819, a group of Choctaws led by Chief Waco moved from their homeland near Arkansas City to what is now Choctaw County. This event is often referred to as the " burning of Choctaw Nation" because manyChoctaws were among those who died in the inferno. ManyChoctaws decided to stay after the war ended and started building their own homes and businesses within Choctaw Nation limits – something that would not have been possible had they taken up arms against their fellow citizens. Today, many of these originalChoctorians still reside within our borders and continue to contribute greatly to society as well as their community economies through such activities as agriculture (especially corn), fishing and hunting; musicanship (chiefs perform traditional dances); arts (fine crafts made from natural materials); education; and service ( including leading protests or working side by side with law enforcement). The early 1900s saw an increase in white residency within our boundaries; however it wasn't until after World War II thatchoctors began moving away from tribal lands altogether for fear of being deported or relocated again under Ulysses S Grant's Executive Order 9064 which called for all Native Americans living east of US 80th parallel "to leave voluntarily or be removed forcibly". Many chose instead to remain behind while others took flight into Mexico or Canada where life was much harder than back on reservations due lack of resources and persecution from whites looking for "Uncivilized" natives among them - a practice known officially as forced migration .

Choctaw is a town in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. Choctaw was founded in 1907 as a Cherokee Nation Settlement east of Tulsa by white settlers and Choctaw leaders. It became part of the independent city of Tulsa in 1907, but it re-established itself as a town in 1912. The name "Choctaw" is derived from the Creek word kochta (meaning "redemption"). The first white settler to arrive in what is now Choctaw was J. B. Capps who arrived on May 16, 1907. He and his family were among the first people to homestead on what would later become Choctaw Nation land east of Tulsa. One hundred years after their arrival and just before Oklahoma statehood, many more white settlers arrived in what is now Choctaw including Edwin Hubbell who bought 400 acres (16 km2) southwest of present day Choctaw on January 12, 1912 for $5 per acre ($ []) from the Creek nation's president Oral Roberts. Hubbell intended to establish an agricultural society with irrigation systems so that crops could be grown nearby without being watered by way upriver or downriver like those currently done on some of the lower Creekside Keyes tracts where farming had been traditional for over 600 years As settlement increased within Indian Territory west of Wichita Falls there were calls for district government within Indian Territory which would provide services such as law enforcement and education similar to those enjoyed by whites within Kansas City territory east of Wichita Falls In 1911 Wm Hance established himself as sheriff deputy with jurisdiction over all unincorporated areas west of Wichita Falls with headquarters at 4th Street & Kentucky Avenue near present day Joe Pool’s Emporium store On February 6 1916 Mayor Atherton appointed Wm Hance justice court judge benching him against Robert Matson who had recently succeeded Mayor Reuben Whitehead On November 15 1916 whites set fire to old abandoned slave quarters northeast of town located near present day Depot Road when they suspected black men passing through
