In 1935, Choctaw merged with Muskogee to form Muskogee City Limits Inc., but this merger failed because both towns were separate legal entities with different governing structures and laws; they continued to exist separately until their incorporation into one consolidated city in 1966 under new jurisdictional rules following the general election that year in which allOklahoma City residents voted against incorporation into Muskogee City Limits Inc.; however, both cities continue to exist as separate municipalities within Oklahoma City government jurisdiction

The band was originally known as the Chickasaw People but changed their name to Choctaw after they met a white man named Colonel John Custer who fought at Little Bighorn during the 1876 Expedition against Sitting Bull's Sioux Tribe. In 1881, when white settlers began arriving in what is now Choctaw County, Oklahoma Territory, many members of the Creekshoote Band decided to move westward into what would become Tulsa County in order to find new land and start anew. In 1907, following ratification of Indian Treaty No. 8 by Congress and signature by President Theodore Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, all federally recognized Native American tribes were placed under federal jurisdiction and required to comply with certain provisions set forth in that treaty such as education and cultural preservation measures for future generations
