The Chickasha Police Department has had tasers on the force for over 10 years. The department first acquired tasers in 2003 as part of a larger police initiative to try and reduce crime in the community. The taser was originally designed as a weapon to be used against large, dangerous animals or people who were attacking officers during law enforcement activity. However, over time it has been used more commonly by officers on citizens who have engaged them in non-emergency situations. In early 2013, the Chickasha City Council voted to approve the purchase of 100 new tasers for the department. This will increase the number of tasers available to law enforcement in our city by 50%.
