Chickasha is a small town located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, approximately 25 miles north of Tulsa and 10 miles east of McAlester. As of the 2010 census, Chickasha had a population of 704. The Chickasha community was founded in 1881 by pioneer settlers John W. McGee and his wife Sarah Hornback McGee. The first school in Chickasha was built on the present site of the library in 1893. The post office was established at Chickasha in 1901, and the first store opened there in 1903. In 1907, amendments to the United States Constitution were ratified which granted Chickasha a municipal charter. In 1912, Chickasha voters approved a proposition to become an enlargement of McAlester. The city's rich oil reserves were discovered during World War II and production began soon after that war ended; however, chickashite refinery output ceased following the war due to competition from more efficient plants elsewhere. Afterward, local residents turned their attention to farmingstead development; however, this too came to a halt as petroleum prices rose during the 1970s and 1980s). In 2006, Chickasha voters passed an ordinance setting up a special taxing district for water distribution within town limits; this would provide funding for new infrastructure projects such as water lines and wastewater treatment facilities within town boundaries as well as maintenance expenses associated with keeping those systems running properly (i.e., fixing leaks). Chickasha is a town in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,721 at the 2010 census. Chickasha is one of the smaller towns in the Tulsa metropolitan area. The community is located on the east side of Tulsa and around the intersection of US-412 and US-169. It has a small shopping center, movie theater, post office and bank. The Chickasha community was founded in 1892 by Captain John Fenton as part of Benton County when it was organized from parts of western oklahoma Territory. In 1907, Chickasha became one of six towns in Tulsa that were merged into its larger metropolitan area. That year, Chickasha had a population of 463 people. In 1969, Chickasha voters passed an ordinance to establish itself as an independent city with its own government and budget. On December 10th of that year, Mayor Don Backus signed the ordinance into law after being ratified by local residents at a special meeting held at the library. As part of this incorporation process, City Council member Lamar Harnischke served as ceremonial mayor until he resigned to take up a position with Jenks Utilities Company in 1971. Chickasha officially changed its name to Chickasha on November 7th of 1976 after approval from the Oklahoma State Legislature under then-Governor Don Boren's "City Name Repeal" act which aimed to improve municipal efficiency by reducing duplicate efforts within state governmentswide projects or services). The change came about due to confusion over nearby cities having similar names (Oklahoma City and Tulsa) although they were actually separate municipalities with their own governing structures (Chickasha had no mayor or councilmember). This recognition led to increased development around Chickasha; businesses started opening up within walking distance of both schools and libraries as well as new subdivisions established near water supplies for homeschooling families or those looking for affordable land close to work opportunities such as hospitals or shopping malls. As more family members moved away during the late 1990s/early 2000s many residents started moving back into town but overall it declined significantly in population throughout most recent decade([2003]-2010)]. This trend can be traced back to several factors; primarilyeconomic instability[which] followed2000 recession[but] also rising compensation costs associated with providing essential services like education . [these costs] have caused many residents – especially low-income ones –to leave Chatisha for good .
