Chickasha is a small town in Noble County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Chickasha is located in Comanche County, Oklahoma. The Chickasha Creek flows through the town. The Chickasha Indian Reservation was established in 1907 and extends into Webb County, Texas. In the early 1800s, the Chickasha people were hunter-gatherers who hunted bison and other animals. They traded goods with Native American groups to purchase food and services. In 1881, a group of settlers from Kansas came to the area and founded a community called Sallisaw on the banks of the Chickasha Creek. The settlers named their community after Sallisaw, Kansas, which they had seen on their journey across America. The first permanent settler in Chickasha was James Ahern who arrived in 1883. Ahern built a cabin and opened an agricultural business near his ranch house. He also bought land east of town for a future military reservation. After Ahern's death in 1886, his wife Ann took over his business operation and continued it until her death in 1904. She married John Hynes who owned land northeast of town along the creekbank.. Hynes also operated an agricultural business until he died in 1918.. His wife continuation ran this enterprise until her death six years later when she too passed away without leaving any children behind.. From 1918 to 1942, there were three different owners of this small village: Mrs Hynes' son-in-law Harry Wigglesworth (1918-1974), Mr Wigglesworth's daughter Nellie (1926-)owned part of village property; Mrs Hynes' granddaughter Cilla (1942-) became manager when her mother passed away; finally, George Deasy (1920-) managed Village Hall/School from 1942 until his retirement four years later.-The first post office at Chickasha was established on November 15th 1870 by Jno Burchfield with name “Red Oak” but changed it to “Chickasha” on December 6th 1870 because its site was within present day Chickasha limits.–In 1901 local farmers decided that they needed more water so they constructed two reservoirs on both sides of chickasa Creek: one north of town and one south of town.–In 1907 tribal members voted to establish a separate Indian reservation as part as punishment for noncompliance with government orders about transferringrals from Seminole Nation Tribe.–Chickaska Creek has been used for irrigation since before white settlement even began.—During World War II many residents enlisted or served in defense industries such as munitions production or chemical warfare.—The last resident left Chickenashiai during 1951–1960 when most everyone moved westward due to political changes.–Today muchOftheoriginalvillage infrastructure remains including old Abandoned buildings., Chickaassee School & Church still stand & are popular tourist destinations
