Chickasha is a town in Chickasha County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Great Lakes metropolitan area. The Chickasha post office was established in 1887 and discontinued in 1951. The first store opened in Chickasha on Main Street and operated for two years. In 1889, the Chickasha & Canadian Pacific Railroad constructed a line from Tulsa to Chickasha, linking the two towns by train. A second store opened on Third Street and continued operation for thirty-six years until it closed in 1978. In 1907, businessman John Treadwell erected a small frame building on Fourth Street which served as his business headquarters until his death in 1971. During its time as an official business center for both Chickasha and the surrounding area, Treadwell's building played an important role in developing the local economy and shaping local social customs and traditions. It was during this time that several significant events occurred that would have an impact on later residents of both towns: In 1913, Judge J C Brown became executive director of the Oklahoma Agricultural Development Board; in 1916, City Manager Harry L Denton replaced Mayor W H Williamson; and finally, Texas A&M University moved into its new campus located adjacent to First Baptist Church (now known as Gothic Chapel) on Third Street in 1928. All of these changes were major blows to rural communities struggling againsturban encroachment - each represented a moment when traditional values were challenged and society began to change rapidly within confined boundaries. During World War II, when much of North America was impacted by rationing measures put into effect by the warring nations involved therein, certain items such as firearms were not affected but other items such as cooking oil were rationed accordingly due to wartime production shortages domestically. This led some residents of neighboring towns who had access to those items while others did not to form support groups or boycotts of their local businesses which resulted in increased economic hardship for all involved

The population was 103,816 at the 2010 census. Chickasha is located on the south bank of the Missouri River, across from Regina, Saskatchewan. The Chickasha Indian Reserve was established in 1911 by treaty with the Ojibwe people. The reserve covers an area of and has a total population of 553 as of 2016. The history of Chickasha begun with three families who arrived there in 1881: John and Ann Purdy, Sarah Goudreau and their two children; Charles Jourdain and his wife Catherine (Catherine-Annie) Jourdain; George Fenton; among others arrive during 1882-1883 on British Columbia bound trading vessels including "John Peel". From 1885 to 1886, Archibald Macdonald tried to settle down some Creeks near present day Red Deer, Alberta but due to economic problems failed to do so. In 1888 James Walshe became first white settler in what would become Chickasha when he married Hilda Dempster on behalf of her family’s Creek friends. They built a cabin on a small piece of land grant that later became known as Walshe’s Landing Site or simply “Walshe” after him. Up until this time all Creeks living around present day Chickasha were known as “Hahwateegeehee” meaning “the People Who Can Swim” because they could move around easily in shallow water when fishing or canoeing river crossings during winter months when ice covered rivers made passage difficult or dangerous for other boats/people trying to follow them upstream looking for fish). After landing here James started selling goods he had brought overland from Edmonton colony such as flour, bacon, salt pork etc., which attracted Creeks away from their home villages towards these new settlements where they could get food they otherwise couldn't get back home because it was too far away or freezes over during winter months making travel impossible . By 1897 James had built four storerooms outbuildings (later renamed Centre Block) on Walshe's Landing Site which would become one half century Later – He also developed into one full time commercial farmer with his own farmstead 1 acre land north side river about five miles west today's intersection Abbot Road & Choctaw Highway between those days named after himself 2nd Lt Harris Alexander Mackenzie then Capt Douglas MacArthur long time resident . In 1901 Indians purchased 640 acres east side river opposite current location now called McIntyre Road & 4th Ave NE corner just past Canada Life Insurance building site thence name changed again to ChickaSHAVillage Inc effective 9/1/1901 thru 10/31/1911 ChickaSHAVillage Inc sold excess lands elsewhere becoming organized under Co Op Agreement dated 11/15/1920 by purchase agreement between Mayor Clyde Bourgeois & Mrs Florence Whitehead consisting chiefly cash amounting $3500 Then CoOp Agreement bought 100% interest in Manitoba Railways company name changed again 7 years later Winnipeg Grain Elevator Company

Chickasha is a small town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. The Chickasha post office was established in 1907, and remained in operation until it closed in 1995. As of the 2010 census, Chickasha had a population of 711 people. The Chickasha community was named for an Indian chief who lived near present-day Chickasha. The first European to see the area was a fur trader named John Fenton in 1827. He called the area "Cocoanut Land", after a type of palm tree found thereabouts. In 1907, officials from Tulsa sent a group of settlers to make contact with Chickaashians about setting up a post office here; they arrived on Saturday, July 16th and reported that no one had yet claimed land for post office purposes. On Monday night, July 18th, someone set up a camp at what is now Old Hickory Lake and started receiving mail from residents east of town; by Wednesday morning all correspondence had been delivered to the new post office at Chickasha Creek (nearpresent-day Baxter). The first boxcarload of mail arrived on Thursday morning - including items such as letters from home and consignment orders from local businesses - and by Friday evening there were more than 100 passengers aboard two trains carrying mail back and forth between Tulsa and Chickasha daily! When World War I began, many Oklahomans enlisted in military service; among those assigned to guard duty along the Arkansas River were some young men from Chickasha who helped erect pontoon bridges over the river while supplies were being brought downriver during war time. In 1915 construction began on an official military hospital at nearby Cimarron Army Airfield (now Fort Sill National Military Park), which would serve as both hospital billets forOklahoma troops stationed within or adjacent to Tulsa metropolitan area as well as provide emergency shelter for Allied aircrews coming downrange during World War I. As soon as hostilities ended in 1918, most soldiers returned home but some continued garrisoning Cimarron Field until 1921 when it became surplus property once again under American control following World War II's ending conflict; it reverted back to Mexican hands following that war too. After years of discussion between Mexican authorities and United States representatives over ownership rights – culminating with an agreement reached in 1949 – Cimarron Field eventually became part of Tulsa's annexation into Oklahoma City proper following its creation as one district under that state’s new government structure that year. Chickaashians elected their own municipal government for their village unit effective November 1st 1923 following passage by referendum thereof by majority vote without notice or opposition having been received from any party or individual within said village unit itself... Chickaashians continue voting pursuant thereto until removal or revocation thereof by duly constituted authority aforesaid... Voting resumed effective January 1st 1924 when ballot request received from Village Unit #1... A total number ballots requested totaling 24 were cast ... Outstanding issues considered upon canvass included: water supply; fire insurance; electric power source
