In 1939, during World War II some residents were evacuated from Hicks Ferry due to increased German activity in that area; however most residents returned home before hostilities stopped. During the war some homes were destroyed but many remain standing today as evidence of what could have happened if Japan had won and occupied Tulsa during that time period
