Chickasha is a small villages in east-central Oklahoma, located at the foot of the Pawnee Hills. The Chickasha area was first settled in 1881 by white settlers who arrived from Illinois. By 1907, Chickasha had a population of 190 residents. In 1951, Chickasha was incorporation into the city of Jenks. When Jenks was annexed into Tulsa in 1974, Chickasha became part of Tulsa's inner city. The history of Chickasha begins with its initial settlement by white pioneers who arrived from Illinois in 1881. The town charter was filed on November 12, 1881 and registered with the United States Patent Office on December 4, 1881. On January 1, 1882, Chickaashians elected James Ahern as their first mayor and Wm Blythe as their first clerk. In 1886, Ahern donated land to be used for a public school which would later become known as Central High School. The cornerstone for the school was laid on October 15th 1888 by Mr. Hodge and Mrs. Hodge and funded by Ahern’s brother JF McNulty (1865-1939). Central High School opened its doors to students on September 3rd 1890 under the name North Lakes Union School District #2 (later known as Tulsa City Schools). At that time there were only 8 students enrolled in grades one through twelve at Central High School; however enrollment grew to 27 classes per session beginning in 1893 when all new classrooms were added onto what is now called First Street West near Eastern Avenue South! In 1896 Central High School moved from its original location south of First Street West to what is now called Second Street Northeast near Eastern Avenue South after voters approved an $8 million bond issue to build a new high school adjacent to First Street West! On October 5th 1897 Chickaashian citizens passed an ordinance authorizing incorporation into Jenks which became effective on November 2nd 1898! With incorporation came responsibility for government services such as education (charter schools), water supplies (pumping stations), fire protection and streetlights! AsJenks grew larger it expanded its boundaries westward becoming Grady County on February 17th 1912 when Fort Worth County was consolidated with Oklahoma Territory; however Jenks never annexed Grady County due to political disagreements between both cities over property lines! On May 10th 1913 Wichita State University began operations at what is now known as Cherokee Nation Academy while Tulsa State Teachers College closed down due to financial difficulties; this left Jenks without any educational opportunities for its citizens! On June 25th 1914 Oklahoma State Legislature created Guthrie County within OKLAHOMA TERRITORY afterOklahoma statehood; however no towns or villages within Guthrie COUNTY adopted official names until 1934 when Chickasha took advantage of this opportunity and chose "Chickasha" rather than "Guthrie". Chicaza also participated in local flooding events during World War II along with many other small towns across OKLAHOMA TERRITORY! In 1951 Tulsa annexed Jenks into Tulsa resulting in increased population density within Tulsa limits making it difficult for smaller communities like Chickacha to maintain infrastructure such as water supply or fire protection; however Mayor James Ahern fought hard against annexation which ultimately led to his retirement from office in 1984 following more than 20 years service!! Today much like back thenvirtually all functions performed by municipal governments including water Supply/Fire Protection/Streetlights are handled outsource through private companies including WellStar Energy Corporation!! Although not an officially incorporated town anymore since 1967 they continue sending representatives off property each year at Oklahoman's annual celebration celebrating their community's history and culture
