At first, much of what modern day Chickasha contains were donated or purchased by locals during this time period; however over time many homes were built too cheaply or not at all and have been abandoned ever since In 1907, Wichita Electric Power Company established an electric power plant in nearby Jenks which soon became one of Tulsa's main sources of electricity. This led to increased development in both areas due to heavy industry growth during that decade; however manufacturing didn't take off until after World War II when greater production opportunities opened up following America's entry into that war . Chickasha is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. Chickasha is part of the Muskogee, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Chickasha community began as a post office on November 16, 1907. It was renamed Chickasha after Chickasaw Chief Sacochek's daughter Chiksa. The post office closed on October 14, 1912. The first settlers in Chickasha were white men from Illinois and Kansas who arrived in 1881-1882. They built a log cabin and named it Fort Gibson because they thought the fort would protect them from Indians who threatened their settlements east of the Arkansas River. There were three other early buildings; one served as a schoolhouse and another as an agricultural store until it burned down in 1902-1903 when a tornado destroyed the structures near the present day intersection of First Ave., Nnwe Rd., and US Highway 24 (now State Route 66). A new school was started in 1904 by Mrs. Lillie Ketchum and classified into grades one through twelve according to current standards but never completed due to financial difficulties before it also burned down in 1903-1904 when a tornado destroyed all but two stories of the building which still stands today at 4th St./Nnwe Road NE corner with FM 668 (now US 2232)
