In 1903, J.C. Brockman built a dam on the Arkansas River to power a sawmill that he owned and operated until 1935. He also operated a farm which produced corn, hay, oats and other crops until his death in 1951. His son-in-law Harry Weisman ran the mill for about 15 years until it closed down due to economic troubles in 2006. Mr Weisman's wife Nellie kept the mill running as an agricultural store before it closed permanently in 2013. In 1936 local rancher Lamar Toliver opened up what became known as "Toliver's Ranch" which functioned as a country grocery store and feedlot from 1936 to 1978 when it went out of business. In 1938 construction began on what would become known as "Chickasha Dam" which impeded water flow for about 50 years before being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina damage in 2005.< references />In 2018 work resumed on restoration of Chickasha Dam after more than two decades.

A post office called Chickasha was established at Chickasha by Order of Governor James Cockerill on July 2, 1889.Post Office Directory< references /> Chickaoha remained open until 1907 when it took over operation of the original chickasahee Post Office located upstream near present day Jenks.

The town's growth continue until it lost its status as an incorporated village when it became part of Sequoyah County during 1899-1902 In 1907, developers built what is now known as Chisholm Boulevard which served as the main street through town for many years until it was removed by engineering works during World War II Chickasha also experienced some natural disasters; such as a flood that destroyed most of the town in 1938 and a tornado that struck on September 10th 1928 which killed one person
