On July 20, 1907, the first horse drawn car was pulled off the road and into a field in Broken Arrow. The following year, a railroad depot and sawmill were built on the east side of town. In 1911, a school was built on the west side of town. The first store in Broken Arrow opened in 1912. A post office was established in 1914. In 1916, a lumberyard was built on the northwest side of town. In 1917, an electric light company was founded in Broken Arrow and changed its name to Eastern Electric Light Company three years later. In 1924, a movie theater was constructed on the northeast side of town and used until 1978 when it closed down due to financial problems. A phosphate mine operated near Broken Arrow from 1923 until 1931 when it closed down because of lack of demand for phosphate products after oil became available at lower prices
