Broken Arrow is a city in the northern Oklahoma panhandle and the seat of Muskogee County. The population was 99,524 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa–Amarillo metropolitan area. The first Broken Arrow settlement was founded by Odessa men in 1871 as an attempt to evade Sheriff Wiley Post's roundup of Indians apprehended on a Indian reservation near Sand Creek. A post office called Broken Arrow was established in 1872, and it became the county seat in 1879. In 1907, Broken Arrow was named for General Andrew J. Jackson because of his role during the Mexican-American War. In 1914, general John Fetterman redrew US Highway 66 to bypass Broken Arrow and leave it with Tulsa as its southern terminus; this move shortened the length of US 66 from . The city became known as "The Gateway to the Midwest". During World War II, Broken Arrow helped produce many munitions needed by United States forces stationed abroad; these munitions were used in both World War I and World War II. Afterward, many businesses returned to downtowns around town while others moved out into suburbs such as Jenks and Yukon City. However, some businesses that had left town returned beginning in the 1990s when state government began efforts to revitalize downtown areas throughout Oklahoma City through development grants awarded pursuant to OKC economic redevelopment plans (EPD). In 2001, basketball player Stephon Marbury purchased a house at 7120 E 87th Street from developer Donny Walters for $14 million dollars – breaking ground on what would become one of America's most expensive urban neighborhoods outside New York City or Los Angeles.[1]Marbury financed much of his purchase with money he received from selling endorsement deals with Nike,[2][3] Adidas,[4] Coca Cola,[5] McDonald's[6][7] Ford Motor Company[8][9][10], Procter & Gamble,[11] State Farm Insurance Company,[12][13][14][15],[16]), among others; he also invested money into real estate projects throughout Tulsa.[17]:154–158 In 2007 Marbury sold his majority stake in rimington Properties LLC (the company that developed Park Row) for $75 million dollars to businessman Aubrey McClendon who then rebranded it Renaissance Technologies Incorporated (RTI).[18]:193 McClendon has been accused by federal prosecutors of bribery and kickbacks relating to three investigations into possible wrongfully obtained business contracts totaling more than $500 million dollar.[19]:263 On October 5th 2015 RTI agreed guilty plea agreement with 17 counts including conspiracy against justice charge related thereto’ followed by 2nd amendment conviction on different count(s)[20]. As part of plea deal RTI will pay restitution totalling over $225M USD

After the war ended, Tulsa experienced significant decline and violence until it regained some stability in the early 21st century. Broken Arrow is located at 36°14′N 96°18′W (36 degrees 24’ N 96 degrees 38’ W). It has a total area of 507 square miles (1,500 km2), making it one of the smallest towns in Oklahoma. The town is situated on top of rolling hills that slope down to valley floors below. Many of Broken Arrow's streets are named after mountains or waterfalls nearby: Mount Rushmore Way (named for Mount Rushmore National Monument), Arkansas Hills Drive (named for nearby Arkansas Hills State Park), Indian Hills Boulevard (named for Indian Hills Waterfall), etc. The local climate is very arid; most precipitation falls between October and April, making Broken Arrow one of only two cities in Oklahoma without any snow fall seasons! Despite this limitation however, broken arrow experiences some occasional showers or thunderstorms due to its location on an approximate latitude-longitude line that includes portions of Texas and Mexico City areas
