Broken Arrow is a town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The name "Broken Arrow" is derived from the broken arrow used to signal gunfire in Frontier Days celebrations and pioneer days. The first settler in Broken Arrow was James Hinton in 1887. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River. The first post office was established in 1892, and named after James Hinton's home state, Arkansas. By 1907, Broken Arrow had two businesses: a grocery store and a small Clothing Store operated by John Slaton which became known as the 'Queen City'. In 1909, an incorporation act was passed establishing Stephens County as a county seat with headquarters at Broken Arrow. The new county courthouse was completed in 1912 and served as the nucleus for what would become Broken Arrow's downtown district. After World War I ended, many jobs were available for men who had left agricultural work to serve in World War I; however, these positions were not filled until after prohibition began and many soldiers returned home following that war. In 1925, businessman A C Brown opened the first department store west of Omaha in Oklahoma City; this building still stands today on Third Street near Keystone Road (now State Fair Drive). In 1931-1932 local school trustees petitioned Governor Orval Faubus for annexation into Oklahoma but no action was taken because Faubus felt that it would provide more jobs for teachers than residents within Oklahoma proper (the state government did annex other towns such as Ardmore and Jenks during this time). In 1935, Don Ewing bought land east of town from John Slaton for $5 per acre ($ over today's rate) which he plans to develop into an airport or shopping center known as Airport Boulevard/Ewing Plaza which will be three times larger than present day Airport Boulevard/Broken Arrow Municipal Airport serving all of Stephens County with runways extending to 4500'+. In 1937-1938 construction began on National Mall located north of town off US 75 just east of Interstate 20; this project remains one of America's largest open-air shopping complexes with over $200 million USD worth of sales since its opening approximately 45 years ago! Today it is also known as Americas First Center For THE Arts when not being used as an airport! A 1938 tornado struck downtown causing extensive damage including loss or destruction of most business buildings including both Slaton's Clothing Store and Brown's Department Store; both structures remain extant today except for some repairs required every few years due to weathering but are otherwise unblemished! In 1942 American Airlines moved their corporate headquarters from Omaha to Tulsa following deregulation - resultant job growth across much rural easternOklahoma caused American Airlines successor AirTran Airways (the predecessor to Delta Air Lines) to establish their headquarters here too making Broken Arrow one of Asia’s top economic hubs for aviation! This period also saw significant development adjacent to Airport Boulevard/Ewing Plaza such as St George’s School constructed 1938-1939 upon donation by Mrs Fenton Gentry which serves children throughout eastern Stephens County including Broke Arm

Broken Arrow is a small town in Osage County, Oklahoma, United States. It was founded in 1879 by settlers from Illinois and Wisconsin. The population was 1,356 at the 2010 census. The city of Broken Arrow was created in 1907 when the forks of the Arkansas River were split to create a new county. In 1907, Broken Arrow had a population of 100 people and was served by a post office that operated for two years. The first store in town opened on Main Street. In 1911, the city annexation occurred when Broken Arrow became a part of Tulsa County. In 1925, the Oglala Sioux Indian Reservation was established east of Broken Arrow and it became an enclave within Tulsa County within which Native Americans could live as they pleased without fear of displacement or assimilation by white settlers. Because most Native Americans living on the reservations belonged to the Oglala Sioux Tribe, many White residents considered them trespassers who should be removed from their land without any consideration for their feelings or rights. As a result, tensions began to increase between White and Native American communities around Broken Arrow; these tensions climaxed with three shootings that took place in 1928 neartown square. On July 5th of that year, White supremacists Andrew Johnson and John F Kennedy were running for president against Franklin D Roosevelt; both men visited Tulsa during their campaign stops to observe parade processions taking place outside City Hall where they witnessed violence erupt between Black citizens and Brown natives after race riots had broken out earlier that year throughout much of North America due to economic grievances following Great Depression-era stock market crashes across Europe/North America (See: " Race rioting breaking out throughout Oklahoma" - Reuters). This violence led to calls for Johnson's impeachment proceedings but he ultimately won re-election despite this turmoil (see: " Andrew Johnson responds to race riots in OK" - The New York Times). In early 1929 local police chief Wm Clements recommended stricter regulation on Klan activities due to increasing tension between Black and White residents over job opportunities and housing developments going up along Oak Cliff Boulevard (now known as East Jackson Drive). Klan members refused calls for service because they felt under threat from law enforcement officers who saw them as symbols of black power (see: " Klansmen refuse requests for help during rioting") . A few weeks later on July 25th+, 4 people were killed when shots were fired into an open house at 114 S Elmwood Avenue after several young boys playing inside got caught up in the fight (the shooters have never been identified). This event helped fuel community antagonism towards Klansmen which would continue until 1974 when David Koresh came onto prominence as leader of Branch Davidian sect based out of Waco Texas) . 1
