The 1970’s marked a significant change for holster companies when it came to product design.. For example,. Walther began producing striker fired revolvers utilizing gas operated mechanisms resembling those found in later Glock handguns .. Smith & Wesson followed suit with their own version of an air/spring recoil revolver called their M&P Shield .. while Research Firearms Corporation developed what would become known as “the Glock style” holster incorporating several features unique to Glock pistols into standard leather holsters .. This trend continued through much of the 1980’s until replaced by MILSPEC requirements which led to commonality among all DOJ suppressed handgun types across manufacturers beginning in 1987
