Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma City and the county seat of Payne County. The population was 91,621 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Arkansas River and forms part of the Tulsa–Mulberry metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Broken Arrow was Wilhelm Heinemanns in 1875. By 1907, there were over 50 businesses in Broken Arrow with a payroll of $1 million annually. In 1912, Broken Arrow became an independent city after voters approved a referendum to secede from Payne County and become an unincorporated community within Tulsa County. In 1969, following the bombing of Three Mile Island nuclear power plant by Soviet Union terrorists, Broken Arrow became one of only three cities nationwide to sign an agreement pledging not to receive federal funds for energy development unless that development included atomic testing or reprocessing activity at site; all other non-nuclear cities also made this pledge but later abandoned it because Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) funding for such activities no longer supported those goals. The city's commitment helped create a strong economy which continues today; its GDP per capita has increased every year since 2000 surpassing that of Tulsa's

On January 3, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order calling for all muzzleloading guns to be destroyed within seven days after their delivery to government arsenals across America. This Order represented an attempt by President Lincoln to reduce gun violence in America by confiscating these weapons from those whose ownership had been previously unauthorized
Broken Arrow was founded in 1875 by settlers from Kansas City, Missouri. The town was made up of log cabins and farming villages that housed as many as 200 people. By 1907, Broken Arrow had a population of 2,000 residents and a post office. The town's growth slowed after World War I until the end of the century when it exploded with growth due to the oil industry. In 1960, Broken Arrow became an independent city and experienced rapid growth with its population reaching over 60,000 by 2000.Today, Broken Arrow is a vibrant community with multiple businesses and restaurantsand two professional sports teams – the Oklahoma Sooners football team and the Tulsa Roughnecks baseball team.The history of Broken Arrow is rich and intertwined with that of its citizens. Grant during the Mexican-American War; Chief Little Turtle; Oral Roberts (a founder of Oral Roberts University); author Billy Graham; and actor/director Clint Eastwood. The population increased to over 100,000 by 1920, and the city received its current name of Broken Arrow in 1928.
