Broken Arrow is a city in south-central Oklahoma, United States. The population was 27,948 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County. In 1907, a group of men led by WF Henson founded JH Henson and Sons lumberyards which became one of Oklahoma's leading mills during the early 20th century. After World War II, Broken Arrow grew rapidly as Boeing located their engineering headquarters there and other businesses followed suit including Interstate 19 (now I-40) which connected Tulsa with Wichita, Kansas; KOAT-TV (now KFOR); PBN; State Fair Park; and many other small businesses in what is now Stephens County. In the late 1990s large companies such as TD Ameritrade pulled out of town but have since returned including Cummins Inc., ChevronTexaco, Regions Bank and several hoteliers including Marriott International who operate a large convention center near downtown that has been home to multiple Republican general elections conventions as well as Oklahomans for president and state legislatures since 2000. Broken Arrow is situated on the edge of an oilfield that has seen production increase exponentially over the past few decades thanks to hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Located about 100 miles northeast of Tulsa on Turnpike 64/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard it began producing oil in 1938 when two wells were drilled just outside town limits by Midland Oil Company but production never really took off until after hydraulic fracturing became common practice throughout much of North America in the mid2000s due to its potential benefits: lower costs associated with extracting resources from shale formations than traditional methods such as mining or fracking; less environmental impact because fracking does not involve any digging into underground reserves; increased access to energy supplies due to new shipping lanes being created through Godfrey Crude Field which straddles both borders between Oklahoma and Texas
