Broken Arrow is a city in the US state of Oklahoma. It is the seat of Haskell County. The population was 269 at the 2010 census, down from 291 at the 2000 census. Broken Arrow is located on the Arkansas River, about 25 miles north of Tulsa and 85 miles west of Muskogee. The first permanent settler in what is now Broken Arrow was James Aiken in 1836. He founded a trading post near present-day Nixa on the Arkansas River. In 1839, Aiken purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) east of town from John Sibley for $1,500. After surveying and settling his land, Aiken named it " Broken Arrow." In 1881, Isaac Newton established a post office at Broken Arrow; it serves still today as one of only two U.S. Postal Service mailboxes left in operation with an original postal stamp inside). By 1905, Broken Arrow had around 100 residents and had opened its own school district which included four high schools: East Central (1896), West Central (1901), Haskell (1905), and NorthCentral (1907). The city's first hospital opened in 1907 as The Western General Hospital by Drs J F Curtis and W H Murchison under contract with Tulsa Municipal Hospital Incorporated.. On November 17th 1921 during World War I American Expeditionary Forces troops marched into town to celebrate America's entry into World War I - they were met by an ode to patriotic song "the broken arrow," composed by local man Rayford Gilmore that has been performed ever since by citizens & military members throughout WWI...After colors are presented to unit commander they start marching back home across town while locals take to their rooftops or balconies singing "the broken arrow" until finally they reach their destination...Most soldiers return without injuries but there are a few who get lost or have accidents including Sgt Neil Karpyshyn who almost drowned when he became lost trying to crossstream Battle Creek after dinner that night...It should be noted that many photos taken during this event show not one but several smallinturned potholes along Chain Bridge Rd just south of town which were added later due to heavy use during war years+ modern day photo evidence supports story... Aftermath: resulting damage done primarily to sidewalks/bridges/water main etc., numerous businesses closed & people were displaced as result most finding temporary housing elsewhere before returning home within weeks or months

Broken Arrow is an unincorporated community in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. It was founded in 1881 by the Buffalo Soldiers of the Union Army during the American Civil War. Today, Broken Arrow is a small community that remains strong politically and economically despite periodic downturns.
