Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is home to one of the most unique and important ammunition manufacturing plants in the United States. Ammunition production at this plant has helped contribute to the city's nickname of "The Armory." In 1881, Samuel Colt began making revolvers in his new company town of Brokeshire, Kentucky. He started out making cartridges for handguns but soon realized that he could make better rounds for rifles by using stronger materials and using more efficient methods of production. In 1885, Colt patented his improvements to revolver round design which led to the development of what are now called 1911 rounds. The first 1911 rounds were made with a copper jacketed lead bullet which was much harder than later projectiles. These early projectiles were very reliable but they required expensive processing resources to make them into usable ammo products. In 1912, Colonel John Browning founded Browning Arms Company in Springfield Illinois with the goal of creating the world's best bolt-action rifle capable of firing standard shotshells (shotguns). Browning experimented with various calibers and projectile types before settling on a cartridge designed specifically for his rifle – the .30-06 Remington Magnum. This cartridge was eventually designated as NATO's official caliber designation for military use. By 1915, Browning had built up an impressive inventories of weapons compatible with his new cartridge – including aircraft planes and tanks – so he decided to move production headquarters from Springfield to Broken Arrow OK in order to increase efficiency and avoid duplication of effort across multiple factories. With all this experience under their belt,Browning Arms employees were able to create high-quality bullets that would fire reliably in most firearms types used today - from rifles to pistols!

The population was 912 at the 2000 census. The first post office in Broken Arrow was established on December 3, 1907. The name of the town was changed to Broken Arrow City on October 1, 1911 after it became the county seat of Kay County. The city's population swelled to more than 5,000 during World War II due to the production of munitions at local plants such as Alcoa and Tulsa Arsenal. In 1938, Broken Arrow became an incorporated city with a mayor-council form of government under which it retains its independence from Kay County government today. In 2008, Broken Arrow played host to both the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and the Miss Universe pageant; both events were held at US Airways Center in Dallas, Texas.[1] The community has also hosted several annual Oklahoman arts festivals since then including Folklife Festival in early May each year and Jazzfest & Arts Festival in late September/October each year,[2][3] as well as numerous other cultural events throughout its history that have helped contribute to its unique character.[4] Broken Arrow is located at (36.*111.*24). Archaeological evidence indicates that Native American groups lived near present-day Broken Arrow for many centuries before European contact began occurring around 6teenth century AO[5]. Settlers arrived from Missouri in 1855[6], while Indian Removal Act led by President James Ketchum began taking place across central Oklahoma Territory beginning in 1867[7]. By 1890 all native populations had been displaced withinKay County limits except for two bands known as Caddo and Choctaw who continued living separately until 1924 when they merged into one federally recognized tribe known as Cherokee Nation under auspices of US Congress[8][9][10]. According to oral tradition older residents still use their traditional cultures today despite assimilation efforts over time by white settlers and government officials alike[11]. The first documented mention of what is now Broken Arrow took place on November 30th,, 1907 when J D Nichols and Daniel Bennett set up shop just east off U S Highway 61 opposite Alcoa Steel Works where they processed goods for travelers coming through Kay County en route downriver to Tulsa.[12] At this time there were only a few buildings with only 2 people living there; later growth led to 4 buildings (+ enlargement) plus a blacksmith shop (+ enlargement), grocery store (+ enlargement), barbershop (+ enlargement), post office (- 2 buildings), hotel (now defunct) + multiple residential structures[]* along U S 61*. *Multiple structures refers to additions or renovations not included above which may date back prior thereto or be part of an existing structure which has been enlarged+ renovated over time
