In 1911, when World War I broke out, Broken Arrow became one of several American cities located on or near Mexican soil that collaborated with Mexico to fight America's war effort; it remains one such city today. After America won World War II, Broken Arrow grew rapidly as businesses opened up in the area surrounding Tonkawa Lake for post-war Reconstruction purposes—a time when white Main Street Tulsa was virtually deserted because so many people had left for work elsewhere after experiencing wartime shortages caused primarily by Japan's bombing raids over Hiroshima and Nagasaki). Broken Arrow is a city in the US state of Oklahoma. The population was 86,828 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskogee County and has been home to Native American, white European-American, as well as black American and Mexican American pioneers for over two hundred years. The area that would become Broken Arrow was first settled by the Pawnee people in 1827. An early settler, James Wilkinson, named his property "Broken Arrow" in honor of his old Indian friends who had helped him purchase land near Fort Gibson during the 1818 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. In 1830, John Wesley Powell founded the town on land he purchased from the Wichita people east of present-day Tulsa. A post office called Broken Arrow was established in 1836 and remained in operation until 1907. Nearby towns such as Jenks and Ponca City were established during this time period but it was Broken Arrow that truly became a center for commerce and culture. During the 1840s, many white settlers arrived to what would become Oklahoma Territory and some moved into what is now Broken Arrow while others built homes or stores on bluffs overlooking modern day Muskogee Lake. By 1850, most of what is now Broken Arrow had been developed as a commercial center with several large hotels/boarding houses and several churches/synagogues dotting its streetscape. The arrival of railroads during this time period made it even more important for Broken Arrow to remain an important transportation hub for commodity goods moving westward through Kansas City on Interstate 40 (the only route north then south) along Arkansas Avenue (now State Road 7). The boom times ended around 1870 when railway companies began shutting down throughout much of western Kansas because they could not compete with better funded eastern railways; however, timber mining kept going strong until about 1910 when production stopped entirely due to lack of available water resources necessary to sustain logging operations plus increased competition from other industries such as agriculture. During World War II, parts of Muskogee County served as an airfield used by United States Army bombers flying missions over Nazi Germany; however few buildings still remain today which attest to how quickly Osage Nation living memory turned from wartime tourism into everyday life after hostilities ended In 1951, Oklahoman Jack Kemp won election to be the 47th Governor Of Oklahoma And led a successful effort to make Oklahoma an open state; however following his term he decided not run for re-election & left office in 1985 . After years of planning by local leaders including Mayor Gail Sayers & Manager Donny Sheppard - who also served as president & CEO - downtown Broken Bow saw its first major renovation project beginning in 2006 followed by multiple updates culminating in its current appearance within just three years – making it one of America's most exciting cities undergoing rapid development! By 1970, it had fallen to its current level of importance as a regional trade center.
