Bixby is a small town in Oklahoma that was founded in 1907. The name Bixby comes from the Choctaw word "bilxby" which means "place of water." The first settler in Bixby was W.C. Hinton, who built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1911, James Troup surveyed and named a township after himself, Bixby Township. The post office at Bixby was established in 1912 and served until 1971. The first store in town was opened by Wm. Fenton on Main Street in 1914. At that time, there were only three businesses in town: a blacksmith shop, a tailor shop, and a grocery store. By 1941, there were six businesses operating in town: four stores (one of which was burned down), a bank branch (which continued to serve until 1973), and two churches (one Protestant and one Catholic). In 1951, the population of Bixby had grown to over 1,500 citizens. That year saw the opening of the first high school in town- Grissom High School- as well as an increase in industry with the arrival of oil production onshore at nearby Shackelford Field. In 1984, Henry Ford donated land to build his new hometown museum located adjacent to Grissom High School; this museum has since become known as Ford Museum Bixby OK. In 2001, local resident Drayton Smith set up an online petition for what he perceived as flaws with Oklahoma's state Constitution- including lack of representation for women- which led to passage of Amendment 1 into law making Bixby one of only two towns statewide without female representation on its local governing body (the other being Muskogee). In 2006, it was announced that ExxonMobil would be investing $145 million dollars into business development within Highway 90 corridor leading from Tulsa through downtown BixBY; this investment will bring many jobs and numerous new homes to residents along with further growth potential for the area around these properties Today's economy is still based largely upon petroleum production but there are now also many other industries such as telecommunications and technology clustering around Interstate 35 near Grissom High School that have begun creating jobs outside traditional petroleum strongholds

Oklahoma is located in the midwestern United States. The state was formed on August 15, 1907 from the merger of Osage and Haskell counties. The region around Bixby became known for its production of soybeans, which helped to stimulate economic growth in the early 20th century. During World War II, Bixby served as a military airfield used by the USAAF during the Battle of Midway. After the war, local businesses thrived as manufacturing took off in postwar America. However, with the onset of suburban development and a decline in wheat farming, Bixby's population began to plummet in the 1970s. Today, only a few buildings remain from when it was an important center for cotton culture and commerce.
Bixby was founded in 1887 by J.C. Bixby and his wife, Lizzie. It was the first city in Oklahoma to be founded on a new growth area of the state. The town grew quickly due to its good location and resources, and by 1907 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916 Bixby became the county seat of Hopkins County after the merger of that county with Muskogee County.
