Bixby, Oklahoma (population: 19,993) is a small town in the eastern part of the US state of Oklahoma. It is located on the Arkansas River and is about 60 miles east of Tulsa. Bixby was founded in 1881 by John A. Bixby and his wife Sarah E. Cramer, who named it for their son Bixley (born 1868). The first post office in Bixby opened in 1886. The population declined rapidly following World War II, but has slowly recovered since 2000. In 2008, Bixby became home to the first municipal broadband network in Oklahoma.
