Bixby is a small town in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,926 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Bixby was founded in 1881 by John Bixby and his wife Sarah. The town served as the county seat from 1907 to 1911. In 1912, it became a city with a population of 382. In 1970, it merged with the neighboring city of Jenks to form the new city of Bixby-Jenkins. The first settlers in what is now Bixby were farmers who came from Kentucky around 1881. They started out near what is now Enterprise and built their log cabin on land that they acquired from the Creek Nation under terms of an agreement made between John Bixby and Chief Osage leader Black Warrior II. The village grew quickly because there was plenty of game available for hunting including deer, bear, turkey, hog, and quail which could be found throughout much of present-day Tulsa County. In 1907, when Tulsa County was organized into eight districts (northwest included), Bixby became county seat because Jenks had not yet achieved its status as a city within the newly formed county system - Jenks remained rural until 1912 when it joined forces with nearby City of Wichita to form one entity called Tulsa Metropolitan Area
