Bixby is a town in Stephens County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County. Bixby was founded in 1907 by J.W. and Fannie Beavers. The Beavers built a small log cabin on the corner of Seventh and Elm Streets as their home for nine years before moving to what is now Bixby when they were offered land for it in 1912 by John Winger, who also donated $10 to start the town's first post office. The town's first store opened in 1914 under the name "Fountain Springs". A second store opened in 1917 called "The Gables". In 1920, a third store opened with an attached garage and became known as "The Cottonwood". In 1927, the town had its first school which served grades one through twelve. In 1935, a fourth school was built which became known as "The Oaks" after Mrs. Lillian Hinton donated land for it on Elm Street near her house that year. A fifth school was added to serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade in 1949 and another was added in 1955 serving grades nine through 12; both schools were renamed after Mrs. Hinton's daughters: "Edith Hinton School" (1973), "Hilda Beavers School" (1994), and finally "Emmie Hinton School" (2001). In 1957, Bixby residents approved annexation into Stephens County following a referendum vote of 3-to-1 against it by voters living outside of the city limits of Bixby proper; this decision marked the first time that any municipality within Stephens County had passed an annexation charter without resident approval only three times previously! By 1975, however, annexations into neighboring counties had resumed due to decreasing tax revenues caused by oil industry development aroundtownsdowntownBixby concurrent with increased travel times for business travelers withinAndalusiaand elsewhereinthe county! In 1984, then-Mayor Donnie Moffatt announced plans to build a new civic center which would include offices for government services such as law enforcement and public safety; funding for its construction began shortly thereafter but never reached fruition due to economic difficulties throughout Tulsa during that decade! Plans surfaced again beginning in 2005 but ultimately fell through over concerns regarding timely completion of other projects slated for same location; nonetheless, an initial groundbreaking ceremony occurred on October 8th 2006! The new civic center eventually opened its doors on March 5th 2009 amidst much rejoicing from community members!! Today there are four agencies headquartered inside ofthenew Civic Center including sheriff's department & court services along with library system & several businesses located nearby including Thalassemia Hairdressers & Cosmetics LLC., CVS Pharmacy - Walmart Supercenter #2 next door (& adjacent restaurant owned by Ortho Pharmaceuticals), Walgreens Pharmacy - future home of longtime grocery store anchor Village Circle BBQ Inc., First National Bank - anchors downtown plaza area & provides banking services currently available at Seven Points Pizza across Euclid Avenue from Dillard’s Department Store) !!

Bixby was quickly becoming known as the "Gateway to the Bible Belt." By 1907, Bixby had become home to one of the largest Baptist churches in Oklahoma. The church served as a center for religious education and social services for area residents for more than 60 years. In 1937, Bixby became home to its first post office which continued to serve until it closed in 1992. Despite its declining popularity, Bixby has left an indelible mark on Comanche County history. For example, the Wichita & Santa Fe Railroad remains one of town's most important landmarks today and still operates freight service through town. Additionally, many local businesses still continue to operate unchanged from when they were founded including Grittey's grocery store which still stands today and offers world-renowned chili cuisine service!
