Matthews and changed its name to Matthews & Sons Firearms Corporation. The company continued to produce high-quality firearm pouches until the early 1990s when it closed down due to lack of business opportunities.

In 1923, Bixby became part of the newly formed Haskell County when it was created from parts of Atoka and Pawnee counties. Bixby has two restaurants – Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn BBQ – as well as several businesses including: Anheuser-Busch Brewery (formerly Busch), Grain Belt Storage & Logistics Company (GBSL), Western Oklahoma Gas Transmission Company (WOGTC), McAlester National Guard Armory #1 (MGA#1), First Baptist Church (First Baptist) and Tulsa's original municipal water system called "Oklahoma City." There are also a few homes scattered around town with some dating back to before World War I or even before Haskell County was organized into townships.

Bixby's history can be traced back to 1907 when two men named Edwin Ladd and Wm Sargent founded the townsite of Bixby on what is now US- 87 south of Durant City. The site had been chosen because it offered good access to water resources and land that would provide settlers with economic opportunities. By 1909, Ladd had developed the town into a thriving community with several stores, a post office, schools, churches, and a hotel/motel. By 1912, however, oil production in Durant County had peaked and began to decline; consequently, Ladd decided to sell his interest in Bixby to Averill Harriman Jr., owner of Harriman Oil Company Ltd.. After Harriman bought out Ladd's share in Bixby in 1913, he continued to develop the town into an important center for oil production throughout northern Oklahoma until his death in 1943. The first residents of Bixby were local farmers who arrived following harvest time in 1907. Over time, however, business owners migrated from other parts of Durant County to establish their businesses here; this process accelerated due to growing demand for goods produced by companies such as Harriman Oil Company Ltd.. Business activity increased rapidly through 1914 when construction began on what is now North First Street - one of only two streets remaining from originaltownsquare - which would become an important commercial artery withinBixby during its early years. By 1920*, local businessmen had constructed three additional blocks east along North First Street between Broadway Boulevard (now US-87) and Haskell Avenue (now Sam Rayburn Boulevard). This new development helped spur rapid growth withinBixby while also providing residents with more commerical opportunities*.*During this time period*, various restaurants*, bars*, theaters* * *. Most importantly though*, downtownBXBY became home to many large industrial plants such as those operated by Dow Corning Corporation*. From these facilities** ***, products were manufactured both domestically and abroad*** *** *. Unfortunately forBxBY during this era**** *****, water supplies were often spotty or nonexistent so industry frequently relied on groundwater *.* * *. However beginning around 1930***** ***** certain industries began moving away from downtown altogether due increasingly uncertain water availability; accordingly**** *****. This prompted redevelopment efforts which continue up until present day*** *****.
Bixby was founded in 1884 by J.M. Bixby and his wife, Emma. The town was named for the Creek word biza or "big water." A post office was opened in 1888, and the town became a city in 1907. In 1940, Bixby merged with nearby Claremore to form Claremore-Bixby City.
