He purchased a gunsmith shop and business from J.C. Welch in 1883. The town was named after Mr. Hennessey’s father who had died young in 1881. Gun hammers were a necessity for many farmers due to their rifles being unable to shoot properly without them. In 1912, Gussie Wetherbee opened a grocery store on Main Street in Bixby which became one of the largest businesses in town at that time. In 1916, Mrs. Wetherbee passed away and her son, Gussie Jr., took over her store ownership and continued to operate it until he sold it to Milt Myers in 1954-an event that has been celebrated annually by local residents ever since! The following year saw the opening of another grocery store on Second Street by Cuthbert Herrington which later became known as “ hardware” department store! This was also one of the most popular stores in town because it offered a wide variety of items such as household supplies, food products, toys and more! Many famous people have visited this store during its years of operation including President Harry S Truman and entertainers Little Richard & Elvis Presley! It is now used as an office building located just off Interstate 40!

Since then, efforts have been made to revitalize Bixby through updates to its infrastructure and marketing campaigns. One such campaign is called "BxTown," which encourages residents to get involved with their local government on behalf of their town's interests. In 1886, John Brownell patented his own design called the Brownellhammer which featured an iron spike instead of a steel one and also had a round head. This tool was used primarily for pounding nails into rifle stocks (or other similar objects). The town was named after Hiram Bingham, a wealthy landowner and philanthropist, who donated 2,000 acres of land to the city of Oklahoma City. The first businesses in Bixby were small farmers' markets and hotels. By 1920, however, two banks had been built and the town began to grow. In 1930, Bixby became one of several cities in Oklahoma to be granted a charter from Gov. James Guthrie. This distinction made Bixby an official city and gave it responsibility for local government as well as public education and fire protection. In 1939, World War II started and soon Bixby was filled with soldiers and their families. Many businesses closed during this time as war production rose sharply. However, many residents remained in town until 1945 when hostilities ended. Once peace returned to Japan, many people moved back into Bixby while others founded new businesses or took up residence elsewhere in the state during the post-war period. Bixby experienced significant growth during its heyday as a commercial center due to its location on the Chisholm Trail which connected east Texas to west OKC at that time (the present day I-40 corridor). Additionally, good transportation options developed around this time including trains from Tulsa and Fort Worth Railway Station (now Union Station), buses from both OKC and Wichita Falls (then called Alliance), autos from Tulsa via Choctaw drive throughs opening up throughout western Oklahoma City (today's Downtown Tulsa) – all making it easy for people to get around town! In recent years however some aspects of its infrastructure have begunto suffer such as decreased access to water supplies; however overall much has stayed consistent since then! Today’s downtown is home to many cultural attractions including Art Deco style buildings dating back over 100 years; a vibrant nightlife scene; restaurants serving everything from casual suppers through upscale fine dining experiences; fascinating museums includingOklahoma City’s only Art Deco library/museum hybrid building; numerous art galleries; historical warehouses dating back more than 120 years that are now used for housing purposes by locals/visitors;and continuing efforts by Mayor Jeff Ladd & his teamto make sure that Municipal Services continue improving despite budget cuts!
Bixby, Oklahoma was founded in 1907. At the time, the area was part of Indian Territory and the town was named for John Bixby, a rancher who donated land to the community. The first store in Bixby opened in 1909. By 1916, there were seven businesses in Bixby and the population had increased to around 100 residents. In 1922, Bixby became a town charter and began to develop into a small city. In 1933, it become an independent municipality and by 1941 had a population of 463 residents. During World War II, Bixby served as an airbase for the United States Air Force and produced 1,500 jobs during the war. The post-war boom saw growth in business and population until the early 1960s when oil exploration began to take place in the area andBusiness started to decline after that point. By 1979, only 32 residents remained in Bixby while development continued at a rate of one new business per year until 1990 when it stopped completely due to economic reasons
