At first, Bixby did little more than farm and raise livestock; however, he soon realized that he could not do this alone and decided to start a school for his own children. He built a simple schoolhouse which served as his local community center until 1942 when the university moved into their present location on Elm Street. The school persisted through World War II; however, due to hard times during that time period, it closed down in 1945. It reopened under new ownership two years later with much redesigned infrastructure thanks to a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. The post-war boom for small towns like Bixby wasn’t as strong as many other ones throughout America though; this was largely due to several factors such as rising costs associated with technology advancement or changes within American society at large which impacted rural economies negatively. Nevertheless, despite challenges posed by some external forces such as automation or global competition, the community kept growing decade after decade until it reached its current size today. Bixby, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by a group of farmers. The town was named for Bixby, Texas, where the first post office was established. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1912, the city of Tulsa was created north of Bixby and the two towns amalgamated. The merger made Bixby the second largest city in Oklahoma. In 1954, Tulsa merged with Oklahoma City to form one large city.
