After years of growth for both businesses, Smith sold his interests in Quality Inn & Suites in 1984 to developer Harry Bachelder Jr.. A new shopping center was developed adjacent to Quality Inn & Suites over several years until it closed down in 2001 due to economic constraints within Tulsa; however, some remnants remain today including an amusement park called County Fair Park . Bethany has experienced numerous changes during its history including being made an unincorporated community under statehood status in 1907; becoming part of Tulsa through annexation following World War I; experiencing rapid growth with development taking place throughout the 1920s-1930s; decreasing growth until reaching its current size following World War II when it increased slightly due to military presence; undergoing multiple name changes throughout its history including Bethany (1907-2001), White Rd.(1922-1984), Bob Smith(1964-1984), Harry Bachelder Jr.(2001-present)
