He named his place Hope Springs after his daughter's hope for a better future. The town was platted in 1907 by John Fenton and others. Bethany is located at . As reported by The Oklahoman on October 15th 2018: “Oklahoma will soon have one more voting precinct opened up when Fort Sill Army Base closes its doors this fall and its 522 residents are automatically transferred to Jenks territory until new polling places open up there next year," said District Clerk Cate Wendtmeyer before adjourning her testimony today during public hearing on closed elections with Colleen Cooney (D-Fort Sill)." "The closure of Ft Sill means only 176 residents will be able to vote next year statewide which equals out to just 0.5% of registered voters because their precinct remains open."

Bethany is a city in Logan County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 6,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Logan County. Bethany was founded in 1892 as a small community called "New Beginnings." The name was changed to "Bethany" in 1907 and it has been its current name since that time. The first post office in the town was established in 1893 and it closed in 1912. Bethany became an incorporated town on December 12, 1916. In 1959, the U.S. Postal Service moved the Bethany Post Office from its original location to a new building which currently serves as the City Hall Annex of the University of Central Oklahoma campus.[1] The first person to speak about what would become Bethany came during a meeting of settlers organized by Reverend JF McMurry on January 8, 1892.[2][3] At that meeting McMurry proposed that they form a small community for themselves near Haskell Springs where he had recently discovered oil shale deposits dry land lying between two mountain ridges. The group voted unanimously to establish this new community known as New Beginnings and vote on a name for their new town – Bethany after his wife who resided near them at Haskell Springs (now part of Tulsa).[4][5] A committee composed of citizens from across central Oklahoma selected "Bethany" as the name for their new settlement on October 11th 1907 following public hearings held at The Baptist Church located just east of downtown Bethany with representatives from all nine counties within Logan County present including those now included within Tulsa metropolitan area[6]. From then until 1916 when incorporation occurred; all business conducted by either resident or local committees rather than by individual members represented by elected officials took place under this charter article 7-8[7][8]. On December 12th 1916 local residents ratified via referendum an amendment giving them full authority to regulate commerce within their borders[9]. This development allowed both economic growth and social stability while also ensuring future annexation into other communities through annexation processes subject only to voter approval not legislative branch intervention like at present where annexation decisions are made based purely upon financial considerations with very little regard given to historical context or rural/urban distinction
