In the early 1800s, Bethany was a small town in Oklahoma. It was home to a gunsmith who made barrels for rifles and pistols. One of the most famous guns of all time was the Colt Model 1873, which was designed by American arms manufacturer Colt. The rifle became known as the “Shane Gun” because its namesake, Shane Walsh, killed five people with it during a shootout in 1876. The Shanes were one of the first families to own firearms in Oklahoma. Their rifles were used in many law enforcement operations and tracking exercises throughout the state. In 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson issued an executive order banning ownership of assault weapons, the Shane Gunners decided to fight back. They successfully lobbied Congress to pass legislation allowing them to keep their firearms! Thanks to their defense efforts and NRA support, handguns remained legal in Oklahoma until 1949 – well into what would become known as “the gun control era”. After that point, however, gun proliferation changed dramatically due to new laws and regulations put into place following mass shootings like Sandy Hook Elementary School or Aurora Colorado movie theater massacre. The Bethany Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1906 and saw its first fire in 1911. The Bethany-Muskogee Chamber of Commerce was organized in 1907 and has been headquartered in the town ever since. In 1990, Bethany became home to the world's first community recycling program when it began accepting electronic waste from residents and businesses. Bethany's rich history can be traced back to 1853, when settlers arrived on what is now known as Indian Territory. By 1890, business had already begun to grow in the town, with a general store and post office among its early occupants. At that time, Bethany consisted of a single block of land surrounding a square courthouse square which served as both local government center and commercial district. In 1916, during World War I, an airfield was built by Tulsa Air Force Base near Bethany for use by American forces flying training missions over OKC area targets; however after only a few months service it was closed due to low usage rates. A new airfield opened about 15 miles east of town near Jenks in December 1918 under another name - "Pinecastle Field". This airstrip served as an important stopover for bombers en route to RAF Bomber Command raids against German cities such as Cologne and Essen during World War II; however due to destroyed infrastructure it closed shortly after hostilities ended with Germany’s surrender on May 7th 1945 In 1951, following the passage of the Civil Rights Actof 1964, African Americans were allowed into townships across Oklahoma starting with Bethany where they were given access to limited services such as public housing developments established earlier that year throughout Muskogee County In 1970-71 Bethlehem Steel Co., an affiliate company of United Steelworkers Local 10 (now USW) mine workers strikeized 4 brick plants operated by Bethlehem Steel Co.; this led to massive destruction at plant sites throughout southwestern Oklahoma City resulting in more than 1/3 million bricks being lost or destroyed plus $5 million worth Of damage done To retail stores alone The strike inspired one large civil rights march from Tulsa’s Greenwood neighborhood all the way down University Avenue downtown T he event drew some 50 000 people who marched until 5 am

Bethany is a small town in Oklahoma that was founded in 1907. The community was named after Bethany, PA, which was the site of a large battle in the American Civil War. The town's economic development began during World War II when the oil industry began to take off. Today, Bethany is an agricultural center with a population of around 1,500. In addition to its primary economy, Bethany has been known for its history and culture. Bethany's origins can be traced back to 1907 when two German farmers, Wilhelm and Heinrich Fischer, arrived in what is now Bethany County. They built a cabin on the present-day property that would become their home until 1912 when they sold it to John Dillingham for $1,000. Dillingham operated a grocery store in the area until 1913 when he purchased another land parcel and built his own house called "The Henschel House." In 1916, Dillingham married Ada Cramer and moved into his new home with her. Ada worked as a domestic servant for Dillingham while he ran his business until 1925 when he retired from his business and bought additional land parcels nearby. In 1928, he donated these lands to the village of Bethany for use as an agricultural area. Over time much of this acreage became owned by various businesses including The P&O Railroad which constructed tracks through the community in 1954; United States Steel which mined coal here during World War II; grain elevator operators such as Western Oil who used the local water supplies; and finally housing developers like American Homes who erected homes on these properties beginning in 1949. In 1957, after years of planning by village officials and residents alike, Bethany became an incorporated village with full voting rights under state law pursuant to § 362 of OK STATUTE OF COUNTY OFFICIALS (1947). This event marks one of several significant changes that occurred within BethANY over time including annexation by Tulsa City following allegations of mismanagement at communal levels; incorporation as an independent municipality pursuant to § 361(a) of OK STATUTE OF COUNTY OFFICIALS (1965); establishment as one unitarian school district following protests from parents over high tuition rates at Consolidated School Districts (1967); designation as "Oklahoma's Most Beautiful Village" by USA Today magazine authorities upon issuance of a report ranking Oklahoma towns based on visual attractiveness (1978); municipal budget authority granted within limits set forth therein (1981); designation as "Orchard Park's Best Place To Live" by Forbes Magazine authorities upon further review (1984). Today...Bethany remains an agricultural center with 1 500 residents employing more than 150 individuals directly or indirectly due primarily to its focus on production agriculture commodities such as cornmeal/frozen doughnuts/mashed potatoes/beans etc.; hosting numerous cultural events annually throughout all seasons culminating with Oktoberfest celebration; major tourist attraction serving both locals and visitors year-round; active service organization providing essential volunteerism opportunities within our community
