Bethany is located on the north bank of the Arkansas River, east of Tulsa. The community lies within Muskogee County and The first settler in Bethany was George Hillyer in 1879. There were no schools until 1907 when a school building was built by Wm. Huggins and Sons. In 1915, a new school was erected by Mrs Larkin with funds donated from ladies in nearby towns who had lost children to disease or war service during World War I. In 1922, an addition to the original Bethany School House was made to house students from neighboring towns which then merged into Bethany Consolidated School District #2 that same year. School services were provided by Mrs Fenton from 1923-1929 and then Mrs Hammond from 1930-1937 before it became an all- Girl School starting in 1939 under direction of Miss Alice Jorgensen with additional instruction for boys beginning in 1945 through 1949 as girls began leaving for homeschooling opportunities after World War II ended; however, most classes continued until 1957 when male students were added back into the district as part of a statewide consolidation effort following similar decisions made throughout Oklahoma State government about providing more equal access for all genders under one roof (the decision ultimately led to their closure). In 1957, Mr Ransom installedCentral air conditioning( still in use today) which brought electricity to town so lights could be turned off at night during cold months and bring morning light during warm months; this allowed trucks coming down Arkansas River Bridge causing traffic tie up while travelers got out and walked across bridge’s suspension arm，a common occurrence during those years! A new water tower was also built that year bringing pure potable water available Drinkwater Drive today! An early 20th century dance hall still stands on Dogwood Lane opposite Community Center where dances were held throughout season including Christmas Day parades each year and Ladies Auxiliary meetings on Saturday nights attended by women residents/ guests variously dressin fancy gowns/ Parasols etc; socializing before getting ready for church every Sunday morning! Committee meetings would include such items as crop pickers being hired out each week to do odd jobs around property ，orderlies running errands etc.; many home grown gardens dotted around village while ladies cooked elaborate breakfasts sometimes including ham hocks smothered in gravy & apple sauce over indexes & biscuits served fresh off boiling platters followed by ice cream socials after breakfast～
