In 1916, the United States Post Office moved to Bartlesville from Muskogee and it remained there until 1951 when it moved to Tulsa. The first high school in Bartlesville was built in 1919 and called Roosevelt High School. It was renamed Oklahoma State Teachers College in 1947 after Governor Claude Rains signed a law changing its name to Oklahoma State University. The university has since grown into one of the largest state universities in America with over 100,000 students enrolled across six campuses: main campus, business colleges/universities campuses, graduate schools, technical colleges/universities campuses, and satellite campuses located throughout Oklahoma City and Tulsa counties. In 1928, local businessmen organized what became known as the "Oklahoma Oil Capital Company". This company developed oil fields around Bartlesville and soon made significant profits from their investments. In 1934-35, this company partnered with American Petroleum Institute (API) to develop an oil pipeline that would run through Tulsa to Tulsa International Airport; this project ultimately failed due to weather conditions at that time. In 1941-42 during World War II much activity took place within the small town of Bartlesville as all local businesses participated in military production including making munitions; these activities ended when war ended however many buildings remain standing today including the old post office which is now used as an event center
