The name "Bartlesville" is derived from Jasper Bartlett and his brothers-in-law, Nicholas Blythe and John Hennepin. Jasper helped to name this town after himself in 1887. The Bartlett family developed a significant agricultural operation in the town before World War I. During World War II, Bartlesville served as an airfield for military operations in the surrounding area; it reopened as an airfield in 1951. In 2003, Bartlesville was one of 12 cities selected to become members of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Council; it became full member on May 1, 2006 The history of Bartlesville goes back to 1887 when two brothers named Jasper and Nicholas Blythe bought land east of Canadian Creek on what would later be known as Barthleton Road. They built a home there which still stands today and naming their new community after themselves - Jasper Valley/Bartletown Township (now known as Osage). At that time there were no schools or businesses within sight of their home so they started selling tracts of land to people who wanted to build them. This kept things running like this until WWI when some residents decided they needed more than just a simple country store with post office - they needed something bigger! That's when someone suggested building an airport! And so it began... Barthleton Field became one of Tulsa's primary airports serving both locals and travelers alike since its opening in 1951! Due to all these years' hard work by many people within and outsideofof town - including Mayor Don Smith - Barthleton Field remains one of Tulsa's most popular tourist destinations today!

Bartlesville, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by John F. Bartles and his wife, Edna. The town originally consisted of only a few homes and a post office. In the early 1920s, the Bartlesvilles erected the first permanent home in Bartlesville when they bought section 7 on the east side of town from Judge W.W. Hatton. Through hard work and determination, the Bartlesvilles built up their business until they wereacoordinated with other towns in north-central Oklahoma during World War II to provide for military personnel living in that area. A large garage was built on Main Street to store food supplies for soldiers and their families; it still stands today as a commercial attraction. The village also developed an agricultural industry which produced hay, cottonseed oil, cornmeal, eggs, butter, etc.; however this activity has since died out due toahack of population growth within the past few decades while new businesses have taken over these traditional industries. By 1954 County Commissioner J.D. Hatfield had decided that it would be impractical to maintain two schools in Bartlesville so he recommended that all residents move away from their homes and start packing up their belongings and moving into local institutions such as churches or hospitals which were then available for housing units during tornado season (see photo left). As result of this recommendation many people chose to leave rather than face what became known as "The Great Migration". Today there are very few people remaining in Bartlesville except for those who live near Interstate 44 which skirts its outskirts; most of the buildings from back when the community was much larger have been demolished or converted into apartments or other uses such as a shopping center/mall (photo right). In spite of its history, little is known about Barth'sville before World War II because no records exist from that time period - probably because there was no need for them given how everything functioned smoothly without any outside interference despite life being difficult at times due to lack of resources (see photos below).
Bartlesville was founded in 1881 by George W. Bartles and named for him. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1902, the Oklahoma Legislature created the County of Bartlesville and placed it within the new Indian Territory. The county name was changed to Tulsa County in 1907.
