Bartlesville is a city in the Tulsa metropolitan area, located on the east side of the Arkansas River. The population was 226 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa-Milton, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Bartlesville was John A. Hodge in 1881. He and his family founded a wagon trade business called "Hodge's Wagon House." Over time, other residents added to the town name, including Elisha Denny and J.D. Salinger (the author). In 1907, Bartlesville became an independent city under charter from Tulsa County. At that time it contained about 200 people and had one store and two hotels. In 1924, Bartlesville established its own school system which evolved into Tulsa High School District #2 today known as Shawnee High School District #3 or simply as "HSD3". That same year saw the opening of what would become our current Walmart Supercenter across from US 64/I-35W just south of I-35W exit 244A near milepost 9 on US 64 which now houses our police department administrative offices for both cities combined - making it effectively our largest shopping center on this side of town! Bartlesville, Oklahoma is a small town located in the state of Oklahoma. The population as of the 2010 census was 2,848. Bartlesville was founded on November 3, 1907 by Harry Fenton and his wife Carrie Bartles. The town originally consisted of just a few houses and a school. By 1912, the town had grown to include over 100 homes and five schools. In 1914, the towns first post office opened and continued to serve until it closed in 1961. The towns first store was established in 1916 and served as the primary hub for local commerce until it closed in 1979. The first church built in Bartlesville was erected in 1918. From 1928 to 1941, Bartlesville also hosted the annual Cotton Bowl game which is now known as NCAA college football's Mobile (Ala.) University game. During World War II, Bartlesville became one of several American cities that accepted Japanese citizens into military service through the J-2 program which allowed Japanese nationals to work outside their home country without fear of arrest or deportation. After the war ended, many Japanese residents left Bartlesville while others moved into existing homes or started their own businesses within the community after they were not offered citizenship or residency rights following Japan’s surrender on September 2, 1945. As time passed however, some Japanese residents decided to stay in Bartlesville while others left for various reasons including economic stagnation during postwar Japan’s reconstruction period and improved access to U.S.-based jobs after 1945 due to America’s newly open door policy towards foreigners throughout most of its history at that point). BartlesVILLE has always been an important center for trade within Indian Territory with goods being brought from southeastern Kansas across West Texas via wagon trains called “the Great Wagon Road” upriver past Wichita Falls before continuing on through Tulsa into Indian Territory where they were sold at marketplaces called “crossroads stores” before crossing back overland onto US Highway 66 near Fort Gibson before finally reachingabee points east of Tulsa along what is now State Route 375 known today as Interstate 35W prior to reaching east-central Oklahoma County where they were sold at marketplaces known today as crossroads stores before finally reaching northeast corner of Canadian County adjacent present day Guthrie where they were sold at marketplaces known today as crossroads stores before finally arriving at central Oklahoma City
