Bartlesville, Oklahoma is a city located in Bartlesville County, Oklahoma. The population was 27,995 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bartlesville County. The city was founded on September 24, 1907 by George W. Barth and named after him. Ammunition production began in Bartlesville in 1911 and has continued ever since. In 1918, the American Ammunition Company (AAC) became the first company to manufacture ammunition in Bartlesville when it opened a plant that produced shells for World War I. AAC continues to produce ammunition here to this day. The history of artillery ammunition begins with musket balls fired from cannons during the Revolutionary War. Cannonballs were shot out from longbows or pistols and were used as projectiles for war against Cherokee Indians and other Native Americans who lived near settlements where cannonball ammo was produced. By 1827, gunpowder had become available so that cannons could be fired with greater destructive power than before and so artillerymen began using roundshot or shot instead of small ball bullets to fire cannonballs into enemy positions during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Bartlesville is a small town in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,786 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The name "Bartlesville" comes from General John F. Kennedy's speech in which he called for the donation of $5 million to Bartlesville High School so that it could be renamed in his honor. The history of Bartlesville goes back to 1885 when settlers arrived in what is now Bartlesville and founded a ranch named Burke Ranch. By 1907, the town had been organized as a village andnamed after Colonel David Ewing, who donated land for the town square and other civic amenities. In 1912, the post office was established at Bartlesville and mail services were extended to nearby Muskogee. In 1932, General George Wallace won an election as governor of Oklahoma and moved to Tulsa to take up his new position. When Wallace took office, he ordered state troopers into action against citizens who were demonstrating against him in Tulsa'sowntown district known as "Bloody Sunday." Over 100 people were killed or injured during this chaotic police response that began on December 3rd and continued until January 5th when Wallace was finally forced out of office by Ulysses S Grant following a power struggle within the government over control of Tulsa's major institutions
