Ardmore is a small town in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The population was 5,787 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Arkansas River, about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Tulsa and 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Muskogee. The first permanent settler in Ardmore was James A. Armstrong in 1871. In 1927, Clyde Iverson opened the first grocery store in what is now Ardmore and operated it until 1951 when he moved his business to Tulsa. Over time other businesses have been opened such as a car dealership (1948), gas station (1958), restaurant (1963), convenience store (1973), hotel/motel (1977), bowling alley(1979), health club/spas (1983) and auto parts store(1987).
