Ardmore, Oklahoma is a small town located in the US state of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by three brothers, John Ardmore, James Ardmore and William Ardmore. The town had a population of 15 people when it was established. The population grew to over 200 by 1930. In 1942, the Japanese bombed the town killing nearly all the residents. The bombing made Ardmore an unwilling target for the US military and it only increased its popularity among those who felt that their town could not be attacked because of its size or location. By 1960, the population had decreased to around 100 people and today it has a population of under 10 people. The history of Ardmore can be traced back to 1907 when three brothers opened up a store in what is now known as ArdMORE - an abbreviation for "the Ards". They named their business after their father-in-law, James Averill Hardesty who had bought land in this area in 1906. The Hardesty family continued to run the store until 1914 when they sold it to John ArdMORE Sr.. John Sr.'s son John Farrow ardMORE took over from him and operated the business until he died in 1951. From then on, management passed through several hands before coming into ownership by his grandson William Farrow ardMORE who ran it until 1974. In 1978, William's widow moved here from Massachusetts so she could take care of her grandaughter (William's eldest daughter). Today there are only five residents living within 1 mile of Ard MORE - four families with children and one elderly couple living onor offof property line parcels owned by various farmers/ ranchers/ developers/. One important aspect that has kept alive since World War II at least two Main Street businesses - The Ards Bakery which closed down circa 1975 due to lack of customers and later reopened 1985 as Westwind Pizza; also Joes' Bar & Grill which closed down 1997 due to fire but reopened 2005 as Pecan Lodge Inn & Grill! This demonstrates how popular these types of businesses were during this time frame especially given that there have been few if any changes other than Name changeings throughout much like many small towns across America during this era
The town of Ardmore was founded in 1881 by H.H. Caldwell and A.F. Grosch, two German immigrants who came to the United States to start a new life. The first post office was established in Ardmore in 1885, and the first store opened its doors in 1889. In 1907, the Arkansas River was diverted from its original course through Ardmore and the town became known as "Diverting Water City." In 1916, Ardmore joined the Union Pacific Railroad and began serving as a terminus for passenger trains between Oklahoma City and Wichita Falls.
