At that time, only one-tenth ownership of all parcels within Ardmore City limits belonged to private citizens or businesses; the rest was held by government agencies such as Army Ammunition Plant #2 (now Tinker Air Force Base), Wichita State University (now Wichita State University- presses), Tulsa Power & Light Company (now NRG Energy) and Tulsa Gas Co.(now Noble Energy). That same year sawthe first electric streetcar operation in Oklahoma when Ardsboro Electric Railway Lines ran service between downtown Ardsboro and east side streets near Central High School.. In 1917 Archer County was created from parts of Osage County following territorial gains made during World War I . On February 17th, 1918 , Captured German Soldiers were marched through town square by local farmers before being delivered at gunpoint to Japanese POW camps located near present day Midway Airport
