Ardmore is a town in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1907 as a small farming community by engineer and president of the Tulsa Railroad, George H. Herndon. In 1938, Ardmore became the first city in Tulsa to be annexed into the larger Tulsa metropolitan area. Ardmore's rich history began with its founding on April 15, 1907 by engineer and president of the Tulsa Railroad George H. Herndon. The town name originated from an observation made by Mr. Herndon while surveying his land: "If you want to know where I am from - look no further than Ardmore." The original population of Ardmore consisted of only five families and grew to around 100 residents within two years due to strong growth in nearby towns such as Jenks and Shawnee Heights. The initial development of ArdMORE took place on a small plot of land that comprised present-day downtown and several other smaller villages including Greencastle (now part of Jenks), Overbrook, Broadview Heights and White Sands (now part of Springdale). As early as 1915 when local businessman John Glessner donated 2 acres for developing a shopping center which would eventually become known as "The Mall", considerable progress had been made toward establishing an urban center at what would become ArdMORE. In 1937, after annexation into the much larger Tulsa metropolitan area by Tulsans through state legislation passed during Govanl James Fenton’s administration, many businesses located throughout downtownOklahoma relocated their operations northward towards what is now Midtown OKC adjoining Interstate 25 and US-40 concourses east/west; this relocation pattern continued until they were finally allowed back inside Municipal Limits subsequent to Mayor Dewey Ladd’s proclamation dated November 7th december 3rd 1959 declaring them again City limits subject only to zoning regulations enacted pursuant thereto! This event served notice that Municipality could not continue accommodating these large business interests effectively without becoming increasingly beholden both politically & financially TO THEM – consequences unthinkable just one year earlier! A few months later on January 1st 1960 following passage by both Houses Of The Oklahoma Legislature Of A Local Master Plan Amendment Authorizing Development Within Municipal Limits By Governmental Entity duly constituted under Section 5405(a) Of Title 31 Code Of Oklahoma An Act having reference To The Expansion And renovation OF THE CITY OF ARDMORE THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A PLAN AND DIRECTIONS THEREIN (the “Plan”)), Mayor Dewey Ladd proclaimed that all buildings existing within Municipal Limits prior to said date shall be considered destroyed; this proclamation was followed up almost immediately with another announcing that any property situated within municipal limits since then but older than sixty days must also be destroyed in order for pre-existing rights existing therein or acquired therein since said date thereof to come into effect! All structures erected since then are hereby exempt from destruction unless otherwise certified thereby by members mutually agreed upon between Governments concerned AS SET FORTH IN THE AGREEMENT DATED MAY 12TH 1961 BETWEEN THE CITY OF ARDMORE AND THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA (the “City Agreement”)). From this point forwardURBANIZED DEVELOPMENTS CONTINUED INCREASINGLY OUTSIDE MUNICIPAL LIMITS BUT PRESUMINGLY UNDER THEIR AUTHORITY ONLY UPON CONFIRMATION BY EITHER GOVERNMENT THAT ALL ORIGINAL RIGHTS DESCRIBED IN SUCH AGREEMENT HAVE BEEN REGISTERED WITHIN THE COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE LOCATED AT 6 N Main Street NEAR ARCADE PARKWAY)!!!!!!

The Ardmores decided to name their new town after themselves, because they were the first people to live there. The town rapidly grew and soon had a population of over 1,000 residents.
