The city was named after a creek that meandered through the area. The first settlers in Ardmore were local farmers who began arriving in earnest in the early 1900s. By 1910, the population of Ardmore had grown to over 100 people. The city's growth continued until World War II when it plummeted to just 17 residents due to wartime restrictions on transportation and housing. After the war, ArdMORE experienced another growth spurt; its population reached 250 by 1955. The days of small-town living are long gone in Ardmore; today, the city is home to a diverse range of residents including students, workers, retirees, and tourists. In recent years, ArdMORE has become known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration which draws hundreds of people from throughout Oklahoma and neighboring states.
