Ardmore, who served as military governor of Oklahoma Territory from 1886 to 1889. The history of Ardmore goes back to 1881 when a small community called Ardmore was established on the east bank of the Arkansas River by settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1907, ArdMORE became a city due to its growth and development following incorporation as an all-city borough by an act of the Oklahoma Legislature. By 1800, most muzzleloaderguns were equipped with extractor chokes. The first settler in Ardmore was John Ardmore, who arrived in 1907. He built a log cabin on an old trading post near present-day Ardmore City and named it after his home state of Pennsylvania. Within a few years, other settlers had followed Ardmore's example and began to arrive in droves—some as far away as Oklahoma City! By 1910, ArdMORE had become one of the most populous towns in Stephens County with over 2,000 residents! In 1912, ArdMORE annexed what are now parts of Tulsa (then known as Muskogee) into its boundaries; this event marked the beginning of what would be an intense economic growth for both communities – although their relationship would remain mostly cordial until later times! Over time, many new businesses were established in both Amphitheater (now called First Union) and downtown ArdMORE – making it one of America's most vibrant small-town cultures! In 1915, when World War I broke out and production at major US munitions factories increased dramatically all around Tulsa – including those located within easy reach of our townsite – Annapolis Junction saw an influx of workers into its fledgling businesses! One local entrepreneur even managed to secure a contract manufacturing munitions for Mexico… resulting in jobs for locals right up until 1924!! During these years there were also several notable events that took place in or around ArdMORE – some which will forever be remembered by those who lived through them! On July 4th 1922 (a day that still celebrates itself today!), several local boys banded together to build "The Big Top" atop a hill overlooking downtown… becoming perhaps the first municipally sponsored outdoor performance art display ever staged!!! That same year saw another important milestone when Mayor Claudius Clay signed legislation establishing county government within Stephens County (!), giving us our first real sense of community pride!!! By 1930 however things were starting to unravel for both communities; Industrial development outside of town had begun relentlessly sucking away resources needed to support modest population growth rates quo ! In 1932 starter pistol developer Benjamin Banneker announced plans for what would become one Of The Most Famous properties In American Land Development history; Cherokee Nation Oil Field #1!!! With this significant feat coming just weeks after similar announcements regarding nearby Jenks & McAlester Airfields (#2 & #3), seasoned Tulsans knew that things couldn't continue going much longer like this…)? And so on November 3rd 1932….the great fire hit…..rippling waves of destructive wind gusts across central Stephens County!! Officially recorded as occurring “At 11:30 A.M., November 3rd 1932″ However……many believe that THE GREAT FIRE OF ARDMORE OIL FIELD #1 actually started minutes earlier when unknown individuals set off fireworks inside Presbyterian Church soon prior thereto…..kindly referring back hereinto………………..

In 1871, a group of men from Tulsa started a new town called Bristow because they were tired of living near Tulsa's central business district. By 1881, Ardmore had become one of the most prominent towns in Western Oklahoma.
