Ardmore, Oklahoma is home to the world's only ammunition plant. The Ardmore Ammunition Plant was built in 1915 and is one of the most important artillery ammunition plants in the United States. Parmenides Paper Company manufactured explosives at the Ardmore Ammunition Plant from 1916 until 1947. In 1951, Chisago metallurgical Corporation opened up their shop on Main Street adjacent to Chisago Paper Company at what is now known as White Hall Place. This company became responsible for fabricating all kinds of ammo components including primer cups, cases (primers not included), bullets, propellant powder charges etc., which gave Ardmore its nickname "The Arsenal." Chisago Metallurgical Corporation closed down their shop in 1981 but left behind a large collection of ammo related equipment and memorabilia which still resides at White Hall Place today!
