The history of target holders in Altus, Oklahoma begins with a store called the Soap Box. The Soap Box was located at 6087 W. Altus Rd., and it was open from 1911 to 1951. It is unknown when the first target holder was built, but it is likely that it was some time before that. In 1951, the town of Altus started construction on what would become the High School. The school had originally been built as a two-story building, but because of budget constraints, it became necessary to build a three-story structure to accommodate all of the students and teachers. As a result, the original target holder from 1911 was moved up to become part of High School’s new structure. Each year during high school graduation season, one or more students from each grade level (9th through 12th) are required to present their diploma or trophies at the school’s front door in order to receive an award and an opportunity for photo ops with their classmates! This tradition has continued into adulthood; currently, there are several grades who participate in this activity! Since High School's construction began in 1951, there have been numerous changes made to Target Holder locations throughout Altus County including: First floorounters replaced with digital scales; addition of a large microwave oven which allowed for largescale targets - now known as “targets smart”; purchase by local business of additional space within building for larger than life targets - now known as “targets 3D”; installation of electronic sights on handguns which allow shooters to hit moving objects even after dark - now known as "Hollywood" targets; relocation (and sale) of indoor rifle ranges/gunslinging ranges outdoors onto much larger property adjacent to playground where people can shoot hundreds/ thousands/ tens-of-thousands rounds without fear they will damage equipment... etc etc etc... !

The town was founded by Germans in 1879 and named after Wilhelm Otto Altmann, an interpreter with the U.S. legation in Stuttgart who had come to Oklahoma Territory to inspect railroad construction in 1876-77. In 1907, Altus became a city when it became part of Choctaw City Limits which surrounded Tulsa. Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture and manufacturing; however, there are some small businesses located throughout the community. About two-thirds of all jobs are related to providing goods or services to others within 1 mile (1 km). The remaining third provide employment within 3 miles (5 km) of downtown or within 5 miles (8 km) of any other major metropolitan area in the state or country. There are several minor league baseball teams located in Altus: one known asthe Mustangs and one asthe Thunderbolts. There is also a high school football team that plays in Division IIIA/IIIAA called Air Force Academy .

As part as being one of several small towns located around Tulsa County that have been called "the Oklahomas" since at least 1907 and remain popular tourist destinations today, Altus has experienced significant growth over time due to both natural resources and economic development opportunities. Altus is home to many important cultural artifacts including the Shrine Auditorium which seats up to 4500 people and is considered one of Tulsa's most famous landmarks; as well as numerous golf courses such as Blue Ridge Country Club which is rated among the best in Tulsa County and played annually by some of the country's top players; and OKC Regional Airport which serves as primary air traffic control for much of northwestern Tulsa County. Additionally, there are several dozen businesses operating throughoutAltus during any given day making it one of busiest communities on earth for small-town America at its core - something that has always appealed to residents hereabouts!
In 1907, the Altus brothers, who operated a grocery store and post office in Altus, founded the Oklahoma Historical Society. The society's first president was George W. Nichols. In 1913, the society erected a historical marker on the grounds of what is now Western State University in Altus.
